Previously bought a wedding gown-Now what!?

About 5 years ago I bought a Pronovias gown (long story)... I love it, still.  However, I went dress shopping with my MOH who knows and seen the Pronovias gown but encouraged me to look since its been so long and is part of my engagement :) However,  I found another gown I love (of course) but it is completely opposite.  Wondering what you all would say to wearing my original Pronovias gown-or do I try to bring my dress to the salon and compare them both??  My fiance says I should wear the dress I own ... Opinions please,Thanks!

  • You say you love them both.  Is there one that "outshines" the other?  One that you can imagine walking down the aisle in?

  • that's just it, I can see myself in both, lol!  I dreamt about the new gown for 3 nights in a row...but look at pictures of the pronovias and it is beautiful as well...

  • If it weren't for your friend insisting you go look, would you have been happy with wearing your original gown?  Would you have even for a second questioned wearing it?  If the answers to those questions are 'yes I would be happy' and 'no I would not have questioned wearing it', then I think you have your answer.

  • I was previously engaged and had a beautiful gown that I loved.  When the engagement ended my mom asked if I was going to keep the dress for when I got married in the future.  I considered it but in the end decided against it.  Basically because I knew when I really did get married I wanted a new dress that told its own story with my new FI and I.  I ended up selling my first dress on preownedweddingdresses.  I actually just found the most beautiful gown and the thought of walking down the aisle to meet my FI now gives me chills. I know without a doubt that this time I have the perfect gown and the perfect guy.

Long story short- Do you feel like one dress really suits you, your style, or your relationship a bit more?  Is there one you can imagine your FI just smiling ear-to-ear at versus the other?

  • Wear both! Wear the new one at the ceremony and the old one to the reception!
  • Is it the same fiance?
  • I've had a bridal gown for 10 years--I bought it for a different man, a different period in my life, and a different season and setting.
I *could* wear that dress, in that I can still squeeze myself into it. But to me, doing so would be inappropriate for a number of reasons. So we will be shopping for a new one.

Ultimately, it depends on you, your budget, and the history of your dress. Men don't always understand these things.
