Friday Annoyance

Ok so I know it's Friday and that likely means good moods all around, but I just need to share my disbelief and annoyance.

So we sent out Save-the-Dates this week.  When I do nicer cards (holiday, invitations, etc.) I tend to put my return address on the back - for whatever reason I think it makes it look nicer.  I have done this for years.

Imagine my surprise when we get the mail yesterday, and five of our Save the Dates were in there.  No, not returned for adsress errors or anything.  They were actually scanned and delivered to the return address instead of the address on the front.  And when I asked the post office, it was my fault for putting our address on the back (ignoring that the return addess labels are small, the actual labels are large, and oh yeah, the stamp is on the front).

Am I just the idiot here?  I mean, 75 others seemed to get to where they needed to be no problem, so I feel like maybe I'm not totally crazy??

Re: Friday Annoyance

  • That seems like they were looking to blame you for the mistake they made. Were they going to resend them for free?
  • The postal service works in mysterious ways. That is annoying, but unfortunately, all you can do is sent them out again and hope for the best. At least it was only a small percentage that weren't delivered.

I've marked items "return to sender" and put them in the outgoing mail box only to have them end up in my mailbox again. The USPS hates me, and I hate them.
  • I covered up our return labels and their bar codes/swiped text stuff with white shipping labels, and then put new return labels on the front.  Luckily we had white envelopes so it doesn't look bad at all.

The USPS is so bizarre.  I had a friend tell me that at her old job, the USPS wouldn't deiver mail sometims because either the plastic in the address box was "too shiny", or the return address was longer in width than the mailing address.  So weird.
