  If you go with black, I'd make it more of a strappy shoe. I think I'd go with something more in the gold, silver, or nude range because black seems like it might be heavy when it shows under the skirt.  Have you considered dyeable shoes instead of trying to find purple on its own?

  Since the dresses are floor length no one is going to notice the shoes (honestly most people don't remember what the BM dresses are because focus is on the B&G) so doing any style black is fine.  Just tell them to pick their own style they're comfortable in.  <div>

  PLEASE don't make them wear the same shoes.  Just let them choose their own black shoe. If they already have one, great.  If not, they'll hopefully find something they'll wear again.  
  
  It's not a cheerleading competition.  Your BP is not being judged based on their matching of one another.

  I think black is fine. You could also go with a nude.

  Thanks!  I agree strappy would be best and I would definitely let them pick their own shoe.  I think I still can't decide which color to go with...we're discovering that the dresses don't have a lot of extra length...so the taller girls may need to wear a flat or 1 inch heel...not easy to find in a color shoe so I think black/nude/muted gold would be OK.
