Happy Monday!

Good morning ladies!

FI has refused to let me share this with friends and family (like they aren't going to find out!) so I'm posting here.  He spent all weekend working on some things for the wedding.  He made a gorgeous cake stand out of a big piece of oak tree that had to be cut down (he builds houses and this came from one of the lots).  It turned out more beautiful than I ever imagined it would!  Then, yesterday morning, he began working on the cross for our ceremony.  The plan was to do some special kind of joint for the two pieces and it was going to be over 7 feet tall.  Well, as I sat on the computer working on the wedding timeline and whatnots, he came quickly into the house holding his hand inside his shirt.

Yep, you guessed it.  He got both his thumb and pointer finger snagged by the router.  His pointer finger isn't too bad, but we ended up having to go to the local Doc in a Box and he got FIVE stitches in the top of his thumb - the doctor described it as "hamburger".  It's his left hand (of course) and I am an awful person because "At least it's not his ring finger" kept running through my head.  Once he had gotten it numbed and before they started the stitches, I looked at him and said "Does it make me a horrible person that I'm worried about how the pictures are going to look?"  He laughed his head off and said "yes, it does!"

But we got him home and got pain meds in him.  We spent last night sleeping on the couch because he didn't want to chance hitting it in the bed.  So I didn't get much sleep and am feeling a little out of sorts this morning.  But, in all honestly, I'm just really glad that he's gonna be okay and I think, no matter what you see in the pictures, this is going to be a great story to tell our little ones someday.  Now if I can just figure out how to get that cross finished . . .

Happy Monday, everyone!  :)

Re: Happy Monday!

  • I'm so sorry to hear this happened to his hand..I can't imagine how painful that must have been. That's so sweet of him to do all those hard projects though even though it ended up with him hurting himself..my FI would have done the same thing, he is so prone to injury it's crazy.

  • I'm so sorry about your FI but how sweet of him to do those things for the wedding.    My older brother cut off his thumb between hi nail and first knuckle a few weeks ago and chewed up his other fingers on a table saw at work. I'm amazed at how fast he's recovered and so grateful it wasn't worse that it was.  I have enough healing prayers and juju left to divert some of it your FI's way.   Hope he heals up fast.
  • Thanks, ladies!  It really could have been much much worse so we're both thankful that it wasn't.  We are both pretty easy going and roll with the punches kind of people, and we've been able to laugh about it - when he isn't accidentally banging it into things and hurting himself all over again.  I've told him that the cross is not necessary and that I just want him to recover and feel better, but now he's got this whole "this thing won't beat me!" mentality and is already trying to figure out how to finish it once his stitches come out.

He's a tough cookie.  Thoughts and prayers (and juju!) are much appreciated.  :)
  • My brother called me the day he was discharged from the hospital, two days after the accident and started off the conversation by saying "Well it's going to be a lot harder for me to sit around with my thumb up my ass." I'm amazed at his awesome attitude.  Rolling with it will go a long long way in the right direction.
