NER - Daughter to Father Dance Songs

I'm working on our song list for our wedding and outside of the song I dance to with my FI for the first time as Husband and Wife, I want my Father/Daughter dance song to be just as important to me and to my dad.  That being said - I don't want it to be a traditional song about a Father giving away his daughter, or how he watched her grow up, but about the Daughter appreciating the Father and their special relationship together.  My dad and I have always been close and to me - the song should be about all I want to thank him for.    Does anyone know of such a song or can you provide suggestions?

Re: NER - Daughter to Father Dance Songs

  • @alisonmarie658 Even though my BF and I aren't engaged yet, when we've discussed getting married some where in the future, we agreed that was our first dance song. It describes our relationship pretty perfectly.

We also didn't want to go with a song everyone else has used.
I find that is also the case with father/daughter dance songs, people end up using the same few over and over again.
THIS.  Which is why I was hoping to find one a little different but still got the point across that my dad is the best male/father figure a girl could have (yes, I know I'm prejudice on that one. :) )
  • We are using "God Gave Me You" by Blake Shelton for a combined Father/daughter//mother/son dance. I also considered "My girl" by The Temptations.

@alisonmarie658, we did a similar combined dance. We used "my wish" by rascal flatts

  • "Daddy's Hands" by Holly Dunn, "Daddy" by Beyonce, "His Dream" by Asher Roth featuring Miguel, or "I Learned From You" by Miley Cyrus and Billy Ray Cyrus.

  • We are going with "Just Fishin" by Trace Adkins.
  • For my dad we are doing wildflowers by Tom petty. My step dad and I are dancing to little miss magic by jimmy buffet.

Delaney talks to statues is another good jimmy buffet song that would be appropriate
  • Have you asked your dad for his opinions? I didn't think my dad would have any interest in the music, but he ended up picking out several of his favorites and I chose one from those.

  • My dad and I haven';t picked a song yet but I really like Shameless by Garth Brooks (or maybe the Billy Joel version)- I think a lot of people would consider it more for a first dance but the words just really reflect how my dad has always loved my sister and I. Like I said though I haven't talked to my dad about it yet...

  • I used "What a wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong for my dance with my dad
  • I'll be using "In My Life"...my dad looooves The Beatles and it's a sweet song.
  • We are using "I loved her first" by Heartland. It's not a popular song but beautiful and meaningful to my dad and I. I also considered "You are so beautiful" by Joe Cocker.

  • My father and I danced to "Forever" by the Beach Boys.  I asked his opinion, he asked me for suggestions, and I gave him a few.  In the end, he didn't act all that interested in having an opinion, so I picked my favorite.  It's short and sweet and I love it.

"That's where it's at" by Sam Cooke was on my must-play list, and was probably one of the only slow songs played outside of the spotlight dances.  I danced to this with my step-dad (but again, not a "spotlight dance").

"Forever" is about a romantic love, I'm sure, but I didn't think it was innapropriate for F/D at all.

"That's where it's at" is totally a sexy song IMO, but it's classic and did not feel creepy to dance to with my SF LOL

  • We are dancing to my dad's favorite song, which is "What a Wonderful World." I picked it because I knew it would mean a lot to him.  I know I picked right because last weekend he called me from a wedding to tell me they were playing "our song." Adorable.

  • @lauracutter My mom and I are dancing to that too! (At least, that's the plan now. We'll probably change our minds like 5 times.)

  • I am dancing to "The Wind Beneath my Wings" by Bette Midler with my daddy. He is my hero and truly the best man I've ever known. He has been the reason I don't accept less from a man because he is such a great example of what a man should be. So that song really describes how I feel about him.
  • I strongly considered doing "To Sir With Love" by Lulu for awhile, because, like you, I wanted something more about the daughter appreciating the father. We ended up going with "Little Miss Magic" because my dad really wanted it, but it's something to consider.
  • "To Sir With Love" always makes me SOB! LOL Love it

@schellzinator - I was too, but I'm not a fan of that version of the song, or the melody I guess.  The words are gorgeous and exactly what I'd want to say - but It just doesn't seem to flow to me.
  • @laker2014 - I enjoy the melody - but the thing that is holding me back is the ending.

  • @schellzinator Then if you like the melody I'd go with the song.  If you don't like the ending, you can always have your DJ fade the song out before it gets there.

This is a good one!   My dad is a HUGE Beatles fan.  I told him to pick a song for us to dance to, although I was hoping to find something by the Beatles.  He hasn't done it yet but I'm going to suggest this one to him.
