cost of custom made beaded wedding gown?

Hi girls! So for my wedding I am in love with the Kenneth Pool Estelle dress, but at $8000 it is wayyy beyond my budget.  I am looking into getting a dress custom made that is similar in style instead.  I know many girls who have had their dresses custom made for great prices, but none of them had beading.

To get a custom made wedding gown with intricate beading, what price range am I looking at? If it is beyond $2000, I will move on to another dress.

Re: cost of custom made beaded wedding gown?

  • Chances are, it won't be near $2000.00.  If the designer gown is $8,000.00, I would bet you'd pay at least  $4000.00 to have it custom made by an unknown seamstress.   That fabric and beading isn't cheap.
  • Why don't you look for a pre-owned beaded gown closer to your budget.  Part of the reason for the high price is the amount of labor going into the bead work.  I tried on a heavily beaded Ines Di Santo dress that was $7k.  They told me it takes months to do the beading on one dress.

Yes, great suggestion. I have found the dress on second hand websites and other dresses on these websites in similar styles, but at $4000-5000 (still over my budget).

I have a second choice dress that I do also love that it is ready made and actually below my budget.  But my friend who recently got married suggested I at least look into recreating my first choice dress.  We kind of expect that it would not be in my budget to custom make a beaded gown, but at least i can tell myself I tried and go with the second gown and never look back.
  • Don't know but they will give you a quote when you show them the picture. So you might as well ask.

As for the used ones they normally say ONO (or nearest offer) so i bet if you offered them say $2k they'd consider it

  • You're looking at at least 8k, and many dressmakers simply won't do it as it is too time consuming. You're better off looking for used.
