Hi All. I could use some dress shopping advice from those out there who have gone through it or are in the midst!
My mom is flying into town to go dress shopping with me next month. I've set appointments at three stores, after browsing their inventories -- an outlet-style store; a boutique; and, JCrew, where 95% of my wardrobe comes from
I've narrowed down the style of dresses I prefer, but am not completely sure of the types of fabric or cuts. I feel that I know more of what I don't want in a dress, than what I want in a dress. And while I think I know what suits my figure best, I'm hoping the stylists can help guide me to flattering cuts and styles.
I have an average height/weight/build, and know that while two of the stores I'm visiting have a variety of sizes for samples, one of the stores stocks samples only in bridal size 8s (street size 6), which I am not. Have any of you found it discouraging to be presented with dresses that you were a size or two too small when you were dress shopping? Did you find it hard to picture the way something would look in the right size if you were in a dress that didn't zip all the way?
I want it to be a fun day (and I really want to find the right dress during the first shopping trip), but I am a little nervous that it could go south if I have trouble squeezing into samples, and it turns from fun to not-so-fun (because I can think of nothing LESS fun than trying on too-small dresses). I plan on having my hair blown out the morning of the shopping and bringing a really good pair of Spanx. Any other tips to feel more encouraged when shopping?
