NEY Crafters

I know @KeptInStitches is a knitter and some of you also knit or crochet. What are you working on right now? I've got a scarf I've been attempting to knit, but I'm a slow poke and have no patience so I work on it incredibly sporadically. I also used to quilt when I had time and have made probably 4 quilts so far?

Re: NEY Crafters

  • I started knitting this year and am currently working on this blanket:

    http://tlc.howstuffworks.com/home/free-knitting-patterns-for-baby-blankets2.htm

I'm *hopefully* getting an order of yarn from Knit Picks to work on a scarf for my friend who fed my cat while we were in DC. I accidentally ordered 3 hanks of the same yarn so I might make a scarf and a hat, I don't know yet.

I haven't had time to craft anything else right now and now that the holidays are approaching, I will do my best to bake some cookies this year. I make the dough ahead of time and freeze it and then just take some dough and bake it for gifts.

  • Aw the blanket is so cute @buddysmom80! I've always kind of wanted to do a blanket, but figure it would take me about 5 years to finish one.

  • @kait it's a baby blanket so it takes a long time, but not that long. If I get a break from people having babies I'll probably make a couple of blankets to match our sectional in our living room.

  • This is the yarn I'm working with currently. I think I picked the right one from the site, I forgot it's name. If it's not it, it's really close.

  • I'm not crocheting anything right now. I have a baby blanket in progress but I haven't touched it in over 6 months. In a week and a half I'm going to a wreath-making class so I'll AW the results from that later. It's supposed to be some sort of burlap fall-themed wreath I think.

  • Very pretty! I'm making the scarf and hat for my friend with this yarn (she picked Pacific): http://www.knitpicks.com/yarns/Swish_Tonal_Yarn__D5420209.html

  • @Imhollister I've always been intrigued by burlap. I never know what to think about it.

    @buddysmom80, I think we're both merino lovers.

  • @Kait Same here...although this wreath seems to be ok. I think it's a grapevine wreath with a burlap bow and fall accents...like red and yellow flowers and leaves, stuff like that. At least that's what I'm hoping! I've seen all burlap wreathes and I'm not the biggest fan of those.

  • @lmhollister I'll AW my Halloween wreath. I took a bunch of styrofoam circles in different sizes, cut them in half and painted them all different colors, glued some eyes on them and it's our eyeball wreath. It's still a work in progress but I love it.

@buddysmom80 This is the wreath I made last year. It was just kind of a free-form thing. I went to a wreath-making demonstration and later went to Michael's and bought a bunch of stuff and voila!

  • I started knitting this year, thanks to @buggle2.  So far, I've made 2 hats...one of which is much more elaborate than the other.  I'm working on my third hat, but I'm sort of put off by it.  The yarn fabric bothers my fingers.  So...it's a very slow work in progress.
  • I need to get pictures of my scarf in progress at some point...sadly I forgot to bring it to work today.

  • @LivLeighton, that's super cool! How do you make a lot of the things? I know a woman at my local farmers market raised goats and would make all kinds of hand creams and things.

  • @LivLeighton That sounds so cool!!!

  • I'm using this yarn to make a baby blanket. My friend and her DH are huge Seahawks fans, so I think this will be perfect and work for either a boy or a girl.

I'm doing this pattern. I messed up the first few rows, but DH has assured me he would never notice if I hadn't pointed it out.

    Still here and still fabulous!

  • @cu97tiger, so pretty! I'm sure they'll love it. :)

  • @cu97tiger I love the color scheme even though I'm not a Seahawks fan. It's going to turn out beautifully!

  • I crochet tiny animals (amigurumi) on occasion. I have a request list that is moving very slowly. I've been sewing more recently and made a dress and a chaniya choli (traditional Indian outfit).

These are the octopi I made for motolyn and buggle2:

I want to learn to crochet to make amigurumi but I don't "get it" (crocheting). I'm going to wait until my mom comes out for Thanksgiving to show me, I think I need someone there instead of looking at youtube videos.

  • Well, lately I've been working on the Doctor Who scarf and finishing the granny square afghan. I have a scarf for my mom on my needles in this pattern and using this yarn (MC19) and it is HEAVEN on my fingers. Bad news is my apartment has the hardest water known to man (seriously, why does it not run orange?) and I did a butt-load of laundry last weekend, so my hands are all cracked and bleeding. I have to heal before I can keep knitting.

Oh, and the Christmas throws I talked about were all done in varying shades of Vanna's Choice in this pattern. No photos, sorry - I really need to invest in a camera.

And the Jayne hat was boxed up in a white shipping box with straw last night - again, no photos.

And the Fair Isle bags I made this summer are being blocked! My local yarn store now offers blocking services, which is awesome because I've never blocked cotton and I usually block rectangles and things that look like rectangles. The bags were more than a little daunting.
  • @buddysmom80, I'm the same way. I want to learn crochet but I can't by myself. No one around me knows!

@leia1979, those are too darn cute!!!!

@KeptInStitches, do you take commissions or anything? Any advice for a slow knitter to get a bit more dedicated?

Daisypath Anniversary tickers Daisypath Anniversary tickers
  • @Kait, I do take commissions! The market's been slow in my area, and I got dropped from the main show I do because of miscommunication, so I'm looking into other craft shows.

Advice to get dedicated? It's practice. You have to build it into your day - 15-20 minutes or so would help. I have an unhealthy obsession with knitting, so I'm probably not the best person to look to for work-life-home-knitting balance, but it makes me happy so there's that.
  • @KeptInStitches, I'll private message you.

  • I took a craftsy amigurumi class (both of em actually) during my sickness this summer and loved it. Super fun!

I'm making some baby bibs (cross stitch) currently but also dabble in knitting and crocheting and pretty much anything.

It's really a great anxiety reducer
I guess, to tell you the truth, I've never had much of a desire to grow facial hair. I think I've managed to play quarterback just fine without a mustache. - Peyton
  • I am not crafty, but I wish I were.  I just cook and bake.
  • @CocoBellaF cooking is a kind of crafty?

  • Finally got a photo of it!
