If anyone is from the Houston, Texas area do NOT use Virginia's Cakes.
We spent just under $1,000 on my wedding cake, which I think is a lot
not sure if it actually is. Anyways, on wedding wire they had great
reviews and after we met with Virginia we felt really confident in our
decision. She seemed to have lots of experience and really know what she
was doing. She actually sketched out both our wedding cake and our
groom's cake. Anyways, fast forward to our wedding day and we arrive to
our reception to be met with our guests informing us that my cake had
FALLEN OVER. I never even got to actually see my cake in person. Our
venue had  a sheet cake on hand that we were able to use as well as the
extra cake we had Virgina make since we had more guests then the cake
would feed. Thank goodness for that, or we wouldn't have even had a cake
to cut. Our vendor told us after they cleaned up the cake, that it did
not appear  that there was any real support inside the cake to hold it
up. Regardless, my mom and I were pretty upset after paying nearly $1000
dollars on this cake that we didn't even get to use at my wedding. When
my mom called to speak with Virginia and ask for some kind of refund,
Virginia shrugged it off like it was not a big deal and then proceeded
to accuse my mom of stealing one of her mirrors! I am a pretty easy
going person, but being rude to my mother is just unacceptable to me.
Especially to a customer who paid so much money for one of your cakes!
It would've been different to me if she owned up for her mistake and apologized for it. But to accuse the venue of making it fall over, and then my mother of stealing and not even admitting that a wedding cake falling over is an issue is unacceptable to me. Maybe this is crazy, but I thought after my mom called and explained the situation that she may try and call me to personally apologize, but of course she didn't. Maybe it is selfish to have thought someone would do that, but I know if it had been me I would've been mortified and I would've contacted the bride and groom to at the very least apologize. She ended up giving us the refund, begrudgingly. I wanted to pass this
information along to other brides to make sure that whoever you chose to
make your cake knows what they are doing and gives your cake proper
support! Even then you can't be sure, because Virginia told us all the
right things but we were so so wrong.
I included a picture of my
wedding cake that a guest got before it fell ( you can even tell it is
leaning ). I also included the pictures of the cake we ended up having
to cut, which unfortunately was not the cake I dreamed of and we can
never get those memories/pictures back.
