Allegiant!

For my fellow Divergent fans, the 3rd book is finally out!

I read Divergent again starting last Friday and finished it yesterday morning and immediately started re-reading Insurgent which I finished last night.

I'm so excited!

Re: Allegiant!

  • I haven't read the first two I was waiting for the 3rd book to come out.  Hopefully once I'm studying I can begin to read for fun again and start those books. Let me know how it is.

I guess, to tell you the truth, I've never had much of a desire to grow facial hair. I think I've managed to play quarterback just fine without a mustache. - Peyton
  • Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! So excited. I'm going to go back and re-read the first two and then but Allegiant on Kindle. Can't wait!

  • Slightly off topic, I've never heard of Divergent. What's it kind of about? (without giving away too much.)

  • @Kait - it's a series of books set in post-apocalyptic Chicago.  Everyone is put into "factions" within the city, and at the age of 16 you undergo a test to see which faction you are the best fit for.  You can choose to stay with your family in your current faction, or go to a new faction (they are based on fearlessness, truth, humility, knowledge, and peace).  The main character undergoes the test and finds out she is "Divergent", meaning she qualifies for more than one faction.  She's told to keep it a secret because many people fear the Divergent and then tend to wind up dead... and that's basically the gist of the first chapter or so - and then it takes you on her journey.

No romantic triangle like Hunger Games, but still a teen series - although I think I actually like it better!

  • Thanks @KateJ16! It sounds really interesting. I'm obsessed with Margaret Atwood books so this sounds like it may be my kind of thing.

  • @Kait I'm guessing you have read the Handmaid's Tale then?  I think if you like that, you will like this series - it's very interesting about how everything goes down.

  • @KateJ16, I adore Handmaid's Tale. I'm reading Oryx and Crake now.

  • So excited!  I was sad they didn't film in my hood, and I get stuck with Chicago Fire instead.  I read the first two back to back not knowing the third wasn't out yet.  Glad the wait is over!

  • I'm so excited to read this book! It's on my Kindle right now! Of course I have work and then class tonight so I probably won't get to start until 9:00 tonight :(

It popped up on my Kindle last night, so I had to finish my re-read of Insurgent. I'm a few chapters in.

Totally non-spoilery but JIC (highlight to read because there are no spoiler tags in TK):
I'm not loving the alternating point of view. I keep forgetting whose chapter it is.

  • Haven't read Divergent - sounds intriguing, though. I'll add it to my list and thanks @katej16 for the summary!
  • @leia1979 - I agree with you about what you hid in your post. I knew she was doing that going in but I'm not thrilled with it.

  • @bethsmiles and @leia1979 My BFF is hopefully having her book published soon. It was originally written in the way you describe. Her agent basically had her rewrite it because that style really is too confusing. I think the author did it in the most right way you can though...by introducing characters in prior books before switching her style to what she did...but I still think it can be very very confusing for the reader.

I have to say...I don't know if I am going to read Allegiant or not. I liked Divergent but I lost interest when I read Insurgent...something about her just really threw me off and made me sort of dislike the novel and the series in general.

  • Sorry I never came back yesterday. Work was pretty busy and in between trades I was reading. I have about 100 pages to go.

  • I finished last night and am dying to talk to someone about it!! Argh!!

  • I just finished.

@KateJ16 - I'll start a new thread so we can discuss!

  • I was up until 3:30 in order to finish it and then I was up an additional half an hour to discuss it with a friend before going to bed!

  • I think I left off on chapter 22 last night. About 40% in.
