Re: Wednesday Accountability

  • I fell toooootally off the wagon yesterday - too much soda, cake at a baby shower at work, and pizza for dinner. So my goal today is to not repeat that.

    B: Special K cereal with 2% milk
    S: Strawberries
L: 1/2 sandwich and cup of soup
    S: York peppermint patty
    D: Leftover chicken fajitas

    W: Goal is 1500 mL
  • B- two hard boiled eggs, slice of turkey, and grapes
    S- Strawberries and blueberries
L- Grilled chicken and mixed veggies
    S- Cashews
D- Shrimp, chicken, sausage, with lots of veggies

E- Insanity again....maybe go for a run in the park since it's cool outside.
  • B:  WW bread + sunflower butter + honey + sliced bananas, all toasted over a griddle until melty on the inside and crispy on the outside; coffee with a splash of milk
S:  if I get hungry (which I may not!) I'll have an apple or an orange
L:  salad with ST pork carnitas and latin rice, a bunch of mashed avocado, salsa verde, and some queso fresco; pineapple
D:  Real Simple's Roasted Chicken Thighs with Parsnips (and some potatoes) (LINK), Warm Brussels Sprouts Salad (LINK)

    E:  deck of cards workout
  • Coco, I want your melty goodness!

B: scrambled eggs with spinach and salsa, 1 slice of toast, coffee with skim
    S: apple
L: leftover swordfish tacos with mango salsa and mixed greens
D: grilled chicken with carrots, cauliflower, and broccoli, brown rice

E: I'm missing my ballet class tomorrow so I'm going to do the combinations at home tonight (~1 hr)

I need to up the water intake...goal is 64oz
  • I had the WORST night's sleep. Toby is scared of the sounds our radiators make. He shifts positions every two minutes, and does fun stuff like stand on our pillows and shake. We feel bad for him, but at the same time, we're getting no sleep. At 2, I came downstairs with him. It took me until almost 4 to start falling back asleep, and that's when our heat came back on and he did the same things to me on the couch. It will be a miracle if I get through this day.

Oh anyway, on to what this post is really about:
    B-raisin nut bran
    S-cashews
    L-pork chop and roasted potatos
    S-popcorn
D-Turkey sausage and some vegetable, or maybe in mac'n' cheese

E-My 4 mile run didn't happen this morning. I'll do 3 tomorrow, 4 Friday and 10 on Sunday.

    Still here and still fabulous!

  • @Sakalicious - it was so good!!!  melty on the inside, crispy on the outside...  and caramelized where the honey seeped through.  OH YES.

@cu97tiger - Bax used to do stuff like that, and then we discovered the Thundershirt.  IT WORKS!  It was only $40, which is totally worth it.  LINK
  • Not off to the best of starts....

My mom bought me a Starbucks this morning just because. I <3 her so much!

B: Starbucks PSL, bagel w/ cream cheese

    S: Banana

    L: Chicken and Quinoa Soup

    D: Ham, Mashed Potatoes, Carrots

  • @cocobellaf - my MIL tried the thunder shirt with one of her dogs and it didn't work at all. I think she ended up sending it back. I can't remember if DH said he had tried it with Toby when he was younger or not. But if this continues, I'll try ANYTHING.

  • really?  we had fantastic success with it.  Bax was literally ripping the house apart (we had to get carpet replaced 3x at our place, 2x at my parents'), he chewed wood out of the door in his room, drooled enough (anxiety) to ruin the tile/grout in his room (laundry room), chewed up the blinds, broke 2 dog crate, chewed up my rug, chewed up bras and belts and even dress pants...  etc.  as soon as we started using the jacket for his separation anxiety, we could leave him out and he doesn't chew a thing.  he doesn't need it anymore, even during storms.  we leave him out in the house all day, and the most he does is carry around one of my shoes.  he doesn't chew it, I just catch him carrying it around the house or I'll find it somewhere random where he left it.
  • P.S. @Swazzle - if your breakfast would have been pork egg rolls (instead of an egg and sliced pork roll), it would have been way more epic.  JS.
  • @CocoBellaF ...I wonder if this is something we should think about for our puppy. Three days a week we take her to my parent's house and keep her in a crate in their basement because BF and I work full time and neither of us can make it all the way back to our house to let her out at lunch and then be back at work in time. BF goes over at noon to let her out and I pick her up on my way home from work so basically she's left in the crate for max four hours at a time. She's destroyed two crate liners now in between when she gets let out for a break at noon and when I go to pick her up. I hate to just force her to lay on hard plastic but we can't keep replacing her crate liner because she wants to rip it to shreds. She isn't destructive at any other time and I'm getting tired of the behavior.

  • @lmhollister - it's worth a try.  Baxter destroyed a couple dog beds, and if we tried to put him in a crate he would bust out or hurt himself trying (to the point of bleeding).  he also drooled so much (dogs drool when they are having an anxiety attack) that almost an inch of slobber would cover the bottom of the crate.  I'm serious when I say this jacket changed him the minute we put it on him.  now he stays in the crate.  he doesn't LOVE it, and doesn't go in there voluntarily (our other pup loves her crate), but he'll chill out while he's in it.

since your dog is still a young puppy, you might also try to put an old towel at the bottom and some "smart toys" or tuff-toys in there for her to tear up.  chewing actually produces "happy" endorphins in a dog, so a chewing dog can be a good thing... if they chew on the right things.  I encourage our pups to chew on appropriate toys!
  • @CocoBellaF Yeah...we had a really awesome smart toy that basically slowly released pellets of food but it's disappeared. We also keep a couple other toys in there that she can't chew up...or least hasn't demonstrated an ability to chew up yet. She goes in her crate willingly enough...all we do is command her to "go to bed" and she jumps right in. At night she goes in on her own to sleep and she'll nap in there during the day if one of us is in the room. I work from home 2 days a week so she does get some reprieve from being locked up all the time.

We'll just have to try going the old towel route for awhile...she's probably just in some sort of stage right now that she'll grow out of in a few months (she's 6 months right now)...if it doesn't quit then there's always the Thunder Jacket.

  • she's probably just bored.  maybe try to tire her out a bit more.  how much do you all walk her and play with her?  with my Bella, she hardly ever chewed anything (just like, once or twice) and always played with her toys, potty trained in a weekend, crate trained immediately, etc.  Baxter was a TOTALLY different story.  he's finally settled down, and we just celebrated his first adoptiversary in September.  he is mostly a good boy now.  ;)
  • @CocoBellaF BF and I readily admit that she doesn't get enough activity even though we try. I think she would be perfectly happy for us to spend the 4.5 hours we get between getting home from work before going to bed by focusing purely on her. We've started taking her to the dog park a few times a week and I've started taking her on short runs with lots of walking a few times a week too. Part of the problem is BF only gets a 30 minute lunch break so there isn't a lot of time for "play-time" once "potty-time" is over unfortunately. I think her tearing up her bed is her way of acting up because she didn't get as much time out of the crate as she would have liked. It just seems like there needs to be more hours in the day for everything we need to do plus everything we want to do.
