How far out should I set my RSVP date?

If I am getting married May 17th, what should I set my RSVP date? I and one of those crazy plan ahead brides....I was thinking April 1st?? I know I will get at least a few a couple days if not a week or two late... Is this too far in advance?

Re: How far out should I set my RSVP date?

  • It all depends on your catering cut off date for giving a final number. I would say a week before that date should be the cut off. Wait a couple days past your date for mail to catch up and that leaves you five days to call.

Etiquette wise, invitations are sent 6-8 weeks before your date (March 22-April 5). As for RSVPs, these are requested 2-3 weeks prior to your date (April 26-May 5).

Find out when your caterer needs your final numbers. This shouldn't be more than a week or two in advance. Set your RSVP date one week prior to your final numbers due date to give you time to follow up with folks who don't RSVP.

    Ditto this.

Even though you are a "plan ahead" type person a lot aren't and you may get fewer responses and have to track MORE people down if you make the RSVP date too early.

  • okey oke! Thanks Ladies
  • I'm so glad you asked this, I was wondering the same thing! This thread was very helpful to me :)
  • We are getting married on April 4th and we set our date for March 14th.  Our venue needs the numbers on March 28th and we gave ourselves an extra week for the late rsvps and time to call if we don't receive some.
