What do you and FI enjoy doing?  My FI and I love to snowboard and live in CO so we're having a ski/snowboard theme.

Each table is a different ski resort in CO we've been to, our guest book is an actual snowboard.

You could also just do numbers.

Just do numbers.  Especially if you're having a lot of tables, it's much easier for guests to find their table if they are arranged by number.

Also, no need to have a theme for your wedding.  You could think about what feel you want, like rustic, elegant, etc., and pick things that go with the general feel, rather than trying to stick to a specific theme.

Just do numbers - it's usually easier to find your table that way. A wedding I went to recently had pictures of the bride and groom at the age of the table number (i.e. 7 years old at table 7).

Or pick a hobby, places you've been, etc.

We did letters, because we're both writers, so it made sense for us as a couple. But also, it made sense for our guests -- just as they can figure out that tables go 1-2-3-etc., they could figure out the tables went A-B-C-etc.

FI & I are going to do places that are either important to us or mean something to us or would like to go.

We're going to have a picture and a few words saying why we chose this place.

    We're doing like :

Kings Cross Station - a place the B & G would like to visit because it's a key location of their favorite book/film series.

    NYC - where G proposed to B.

Photos of you two at the ages of the table numbers, places you've been to on your dates, activities you do together, meaningful dates (ie. January 5 2010 being the day you met or something), cities/places you two have traveled to, favourite movies, the word "love" in different languages, favourite songs, favourite authors, etc.  But, I think having table names is easier for guests when there are not too many tables and there is a "map".

Thank you for all the ideas

My wedding planned suggested for us to do photos of ourselves holding up the different numbers. We already had an idea but hers was cute too.

I went to a wedding where each table had a number, but they weren't simply 1-20. They were numbers that had special meaning to the couple (years they were born, days they'd been dating, number of miles they lived apart, addresses, etc.). Then during cocktail hour they had a list of all the table numbers and you could guess what each one meant. Not everyone's cup of tea, but we had fun trying to figure them out.

We're just using the numbers that come with our venue. I have more important things to worry about than naming tables. I do like the age to number idea though. Keep it simple so you don't have guests wondering around trying to find their seat.

    I'm a shop-a-holic.
So our table names were things like "Chanel", "Gucci", "Prada." The sweetheart table was "Valentino." (yes, apparently it's possible to be both pretentious and a big loser. Oh well. It was fun).

But we had a map at the front of the room that showed where each table was since they weren't conventionally numbered. So consider something like that if you go for names.

Numbers and a map make it easier for your guests to find their tables, so that's what I advocate.

We're planning on a map at the entrance to the reception room, and our tables will be numbered in order as subway stops. The table numbers are going to stick out of our centerpieces (potted mums) so they are visible. For example, the mum will have a sign sticking out that says "Table One" at the top in big print and "116th Street, Columbia University" under it on each side.

If you don't have something important to you and your FI that everyone will "get" and that will be easy for your guests to navigate, there's nothing wrong with sticking to just numbers.

We are concert junkies, so we had our tables listed by artists/bands that we have seen in concert. At each table we had a CD cover printed and laminated.

My husband and I are big geeks, so we did the names of places in our favourite books

    The cupboard under the stairs
    Bag End
    The Wall
    King's landing
    Gondor
    The Forbidden Forrest.

    It was fun :)

If you do something other than numbers, I highly suggest having a chart at the table that guests will see first with escort cards or whatever to help them find their way. FI made one and people said it helped a lot and we just did numbers.

We did this! Oy Vey! What a big project it was! My husband is the youngest of 3 boys so to try to find a picture of him at each age was time consuming! I am happy I spent the time doing it and it was a HUGE hit! It help personalize our wedding more,

DH & I both love movies, so we named our tables after movies about weddings or movies that have a memorable wedding scene.

    We had
"Father of the Bride" - Bride's parents
"Father of the Bride Part II" - Bride's Father's Extended Family
    "Hangover" - Groomsmen
    "Bridesmaids" - duh.
    "Spaceballs" - Groom's Sci-Fi Friends
    "27 Dresses" - Bride's Girlfriends
"Wedding Crashers" - Bride's obnoxious friends from Ohio (they LOVED it)

    BTW,     I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!

I see you left Sixteen Candles off your list ;)

Oh no, that was one of them.  We had a longer list (25 tables)
We also had "Groundhog Day" since we got married on 2/2.
How about My Big Fat Greek Wedding?

My FI and I both live in Brooklyn and love everything Brooklyn. So, we are thinking of naming our tables after neighborhoods in Brooklyn, such as:

    Carroll Gardens
    Brooklyn Heights
    Coney Island
    Bay Ridge
    Bensonhurst
    etc.

If you use a naming scheme, I'd have a map or use numbering along with it, so that your guests can easily find their seats.

We are going to name all the tables after Monty Python characters, Although we will be adding one from Faulty Towers, Manuel is just to great to pass up!!
