I am definitely too old for this.

All week, a girlfriend of mine has been begging me to put on a costume and go out drinking this weekend. I am 33. Gone are the days where I'm willing to put on a cheap, flimsy, overpriced costume and stand in an overcrowded bar with a bunch of 21 years old waiting 40 minutes for a watered down drink. Gone are the days where I'm interested in trekking out in the cold in my heels to go from bar to bar to crappy bar. Gone are the days where I enjoy blaring loud music where I can't even have a conversation with anyone and my ears are ringing by the time I'm heading home.
I've explained this to my friend 5 times. She just.doesn't.get.it.

This rant brought to you by period and my bad mood!

Now tell me what you're too old for so I'm not the only young old lady here :-P

Re: I am definitely too old for this.

  • Sigh. I'm 24. I feel the same way as you though. I definitely do not want to hang out with a bunch of random people at a bar with their shoulders and butts bumping into me. I also feel extremely too old for halloween to the point we didn't even carve a pumpkin.. I'm ready to decorate for christmas... and we will be on November 1st, mainly because FI's family is coming in town for Thanksgiving and we have no1 else to show off our xmas stuff to. *shrug* IDC it'll be christmas when I want it to be! Also! Another thing... I went to my old favorite amusement park in Pittsburgh (Kennywood) this summer and I felt like an old fart. We went during the week with my parents (haha, isn't it weird when you're out of college how it's cool to do things with your parents again?) and boy I felt like I was totally out of place and FI and I made fun of the tweens the whole time while waiting in line for the rides. It was fun, but it wasn't the same fun I had when I was in elementary school-high school. Don't think I'll go back until I have a child of my own.

I agree with you 100%.  I am 29 and I was too old for all of that shit when I turned 23.  I don't find crowded bars, loud ass bands, overpriced drinks and dumb ass drunk people to be all that fun to be around.

My co-workers/friends and I are going out for happy hour tonight.  We are planning on getting something to eat and then make our way to a local bar for a few drinks.  We will most likely leave once the band starts playing because at that point I wouldn't even be able to hear myself think let alone anything that they are saying.

Now I am not saying that I never go out.  Had a girls weekend down the ocean this summer.  We went to some local clubs to dance.  We had two amazing days of lounging on the beach, drinking fruity drinks, and dancing like crazy at night.  But now I am set for at least 6 months before I ever feel like I have to do that again.

I'm 28. Up until recently I've enjoyed the occasional night out on a weekend, but a few weeks ago I think I reached the "I've had enough" stage -- not because of a crazy night out or anything, but just because I think there's so many other things I would rather be doing.

It seems all of our friends are still in the partying-every-weekend stage, and it makes hanging out with them a bit awkward now because literally all they wanna do when we get together is drink, when I would personally be having way more fun if we were just playing board games.

    Gosh, I'm old.

    Stuck in the box.
I'm like that too. Once in a while I'll get the urge to get dressed up and get all my girlfriends together and dance and drink. I love to dance. But once I get a night or two like that, I'm good for quite a while too.
Tonight, FI and I are opening a bottle of wine and sitting outside by the firepit. I can't wait.

Um. I'm jealous. We'll be playing Call of duty all night and playing with our dogs in between rounds. LOL. Though, tomorrow we're making crock pot lasagna and drinking some Gettysburg wine. mmmmm

    Gosh, I'm old.
I tried to arrange this a while ago. No one wanted to do it :( This post is making me feel more normal. I'm 28 and I have been feeling way too old for my age. The worst is loud music. I detest it. I like music at a level that will not hurt my ears, and that will allow me to think straight. I don't know when that happened? I remember how I used to wear headphones on full blast...

High heels...I'm too old. no really. I tried the other day. I came home and had an aching bum for two days. Think it might be a good exercise routine for wedding.

I'm also turning into the grumpy lady on the street. No it's not okay to party until 3am every single day of the week with your music blaring. I need to wake up! a few years ago I would have probably joined in...
  • High heels are probably one thing I'll never give up no matter how old I am. I'm 5'2" - I need the extra inches!
  • Oh I definitely need them! The terrible thing is, because of my old ladyness I have more often than not found myself in situations not requiring heels. I work in an environment here I don't wear them, and I much prefer social situations where we're at someones house or something more laid back...so heels would look out of place. So officially, I now have old lady feet. They reject the heels I once so proudly wore. Not only am I old at heart, I'm old at the feet. But the rest of me is still okay. Phew.
  • I "outgrew" the go out dancing/drink all night scene after my freshman year of college (and I wasn't that excited about it then).  I'm almost 33 and I haven't been out dancing in years, but then I'm not a good dancer and it makes me feel awkward...  lol

I would much rather hang out with friends for a movie/game/sports night.

  • I've gotten too old for the bar scene too (age 34), which is a little sad, cos I used to really enjoy dancing all night long.  At my stagette, I was done by midnight.

I'm also too old to still be tumbling and trying to learn new skills.  Cheer is starting to hurt this year and I know it 99% because of the tumbling I do in the routine.  I was thinking I was going to be done but then landed my standing tuck (jump in the air from 2 feet, do a back somersault without touching the ground and land on my feet again) at the last practice of the season and figured it would be a huge waste to not show that off before retiring.  ;)

  • I feel you. I'm 28, I was a wild-child in high school, I calmed down when I hit college, and I am SO over going to bars to get a drink at 3x the price I'd pay if I just bought it at a bottle store or made it myself, screaming at someone who's two feet away from me because I can't hear a damn thing over the music that's being blasted at a volume that's 6x higher than is actually necessary.

I'm so glad that the people in my life feel the same way I do.

  • Here, here! I am 28 and also too old that nonsense. I like waking up in the morning feeling refreshed, not with the taste of stale beer in my mouth.

Tonight, I am going to dinner with H, then home to watch a movie and knit on the sofa while my furbaby chases his tail around the living room. I am jazzed for it!

I hear you...at 34 now are the day I want to dress up in something ridiculously kid friendly and walk around with my nephew or hand out candy oooo-ing and ahhhh-ing at the neighborhood kids! Way more entertaining that a crowded bar with everything "sexy" that shouldn't be! :-p

I am 22 and I don't go to bars! My BFF (same age) was saying the other day how much she misses going out and drinking and stuff and I internally rolled my eyes at her....I just dont get it  ...however I also will never give up heels..5'1"...I am too damn short to give them up!

  • Wow, I'm definitely the oldest here.  At 38, the days of closing down the bars at 2am are long gone.  Most of my friends are, like me, old bag moms with kids, careers, houses, yard work, and lofty goals of running half marathons that require running 12 miles on Saturday morning.   I love Halloween, decorating, and wearing some cat ears to appease my kids, but when I end up at the bar past 10 or 11pm, I feel like everybody's MOM!  Not fun.

    Lol. I totally love that.

I'm not even trying to be a snob. I'm just no longer broke like I was at 21 so now I make reservations at nice restaurants instead of standing at the crowded TGI Friday's bar waiting on some chicken fingers.

We're having a few of FI's friends over and playing board games tonight. Tomorrow night I'm going out with a friend for a bar halloween party, but I fricken love halloween. Also we'll probably have only one drink each and bounce by midnight.

  • Im 28... Last weekend I went to an Oktoberfest event with my sister (23) We went to actual Oktoberfest a few years ago together and loved it so we brought tickets for this and were so excited. It started at 11am, we drink stein after stein and then decide that its a great idea to go out dancing. So we go to a bar at like 9pm (after drinking wine at home after the Oktoberfest, bad choice) Im skulling water like a pregnant deso driver and went home with a splitting headache at 11pm!

    So old!

  • Is it sad that at 25 I can say I've never been out clubbing in my life? It's just not my scene. I enjoy staying in with my BF playing video games or watching TV. He's learned now though not to play button mashing games with me because I'm the bomb at them.
If this is sad, I'm right there with you. In theory it sounds like fun, but the noise, the smells, the overpriced beer...I will take a night at home with my own stuff that I bought, dancing with BF to old records ANY DAY.

As for what I'm too old for...WORK. Ha. I'm definitely ready to be retired and travel the globe, lol.

I'm sad, though, because I decided that this is the year I'm too old to go to all the haunted houses and stuff for Halloween (I'm 24). I freaking love Halloween, but the last time I went through one of those, all the people around us were sooooo young, like in high school. So *sad face*.
  • Radleyboo, I have you beat! :). I'm 45, been too old for the bar scene for 25 years now. (man that's scary :/). I'm too old for the kids and adults who just CAN'T shut up at the theater!   It's way more fun to curl up with my sweetie!  Would rather travel than work.
  • I am the opposite. I love to get dressy and hit the town. I am a big fan of dancing and socializing. I'm 29, no kids and most of my friends where I live don't either. It's not an every weekend thing though. Maybe once a month, unless it's multiple peoples b-days.
  • I am 29. I have never been a big drinker but I used to go out a lot until I was about 24. Then I became an old lady. My big night out is playing board games with FI and a local board gaming group or having dinner with a friend. Tonights night: Chinese food and TV. :P

I"m 43.  We both were huge partiers in our 20's and still love to drink but are so long past that scene. I have a 6 year old so we stay home and do the ToT thing.  But for Halloween in our 'hood all the parents walk the neighborhood with the kids, sometimes dressed up too, and often with a rolling cooler behind them to hand out  and exchange "treats" to the other parents.  It's awesome.  And the only kind of bar crawling I'm up for anymore.
  • I am too old for cheap liquor & dates who don't open doors for me (I'm engaged, but if I was still dating this would be the case).

Ugh. I feel you OP, and I'm only 23. This whole thread reminds me of this (because it is essentially FI and I whenever we go out):image

FI and I were talking on Halloween about how it just didn't feel as spirity or fun as it used to when we were little, and the only reason we did anything at all was for the kids, and even that felt forced and weird.
