Blocking hotel rooms

How soon do I need to contact the hotel(s) in the area to block some rooms for our wedding?  We are getting married at the beginning of Oct 2014.

    The sooner the better, especially for smaller hotels. You should contact the hotels though, they might have different policies. But I would say by January.

    We booked ours as soon as I had a venue and a estimated guest list.  Even though Oct probably isn't the wedding month with the most weddings, you don't know what kind of conventions are in town.

    I'd recommend doing it now....at my job, we have lots of folks who commute to the Twin Cities every week, and I can't tell you how many times this year that hotels in the area have been full due to big conventions. Even if your wedding is on a weekend, it doesn't hurt to book a block now. You can always change the numbers later if you need to.
