Wedding Invitations & Paper

Most affordable invitation options

I'm starting to look into invitation options and I was just wondering the most affordable route to go. I'm pretty sure I'm going to do them myself, so even just options as far as printing goes. I'm not sure if I want to use Vistaprint because I would like to use nice paper/cardstock. If you have any recommendations along with the price you paid that would be super helpful-- thanks so much! :)

Re: Most affordable invitation options

  • You can use Vistaprint but upgrade your cardstock options.

Otherwise, invitations from Michaels, Hobby Lobby, Wedding Paper Divas, The American Wedding, or Invitations by Dawn are probably your most affordable.

I'm looking at a couple Etsy designers for around $3-4/invitation.

  • We did ours with blank ones from Michael's. We found a pattern we liked (it was on clearance so we liked it even more) and then printed them on our home printer. We invited about 220 people and the whole thing ended up costing us about $50 not including postage.

They ended up looking awesome. We liked them so much we ended up doing our programs this way also.

  • I used VistaPrint and was very happy, but I designed my own invites. I also used their postcards for my RSVP reply cards...saved a lot on postage.

You can buy the DIY ones at Michael's one box at a time with the 40% or 50% off coupon - download the app and they'll scan the coupon on your phone.

  • I designed my own invites and had them printed through Cards and Pockets. I ended up ordering my envelopes from another company. Each invite (invitation, 1 insert, 1 rsvp and envelope, and outer envelope) came to about $1.75 each. I also got pocketfolds, bringing my final cost to about $2.50 per completed invitation.

I just saw this!!! Do you use an envelope when putting them with the invitations or do you just put them in there in the outer envelope, but not the inner envelope with the invitation??? OMG, I hope I am making sense.
  • I just used the outer envelope, and put both the invite and response postcard inside. I didn't want to waste the extra trees or pay the increased postage. I had the postcards printed with return address and everything so i didn't need to do anything but put the stamp on. I got a stamper for return address and hand addressed the outer envelope. I used a coupon~ there are always some available. It was super cheap and easy. GL!

  • We're doing ours from Walmart actually. They don't have the ones we like in our store, but can do site to store for free :). You just print on them and assemble and done! RSVP cards (and envelopes) come with all of their packs too. Each one for us will be $0.68. It goes along with our theme as well so it works :)

  • I ordered mine from Invitations from David's Bridal. As much as I loathe them, they were actually pretty cheap and good quality. Plus, I had a deal for 20% off the entire order and free shipping. So that was nice.
  • I actually bought a PDF from Etsy for $20 that included the invitation, RSVP, reception card, and extra enclosure card.  I bought linen paper in bulk online for $30 and am having staples print them for me for $50. So it was $100 for 150 invitations! My matron of honor did this for her wedding, and they were super nice and very impressive! (you could not tell at all that they were DIY!)

  • I bought the design package from Etsy too!  I'm very happy with the design and can't wait to touch them when I print them!  I'm just needing to find a print shop as I don't have a printer.  I also want my STDs and reply cards to be postcards so I don't think I could figure that out by myself.
  • I am purchasing a template on etsy for $40 (includes invite, rsvp, reception details, accomodations, and directions @ $8 each) and purchasing pocketfolds on cardsandpockets @ .69/each.  I'm purchasing regular card stock to print myself - i haven't bought it yet, so unsure what final price will be but i will use michaels/joann/ac moore coupons for discounts.   I happen to have an HUGE roll of lace ribbon that i am using to make a band around the pocketfold, and will just need to purchase envelopes and glue (and ink for the printer).     I've made a sample and was happy with the result and for 50 invitations I figured it is going to be less than 1/2 the price them some of the invitations i found online that i liked.

Can you take a picture of your sample?  Sounds really nice :)

kiwikiss56  this is a very rough sample,  I secured the lace with a glue dot and I plan on printing our initials with the date onto a 2x2 ivory or cream square of cardstock, and mount that onto a darker purple, the purple will go behind the lace and the cream on top, to hide the seam in the lace.   I am borrowing a paper cutter to cut the cardstock after printer, so it will all be cut much nicer than this and lined up. nothing is glued on this one I made.  I will use a matching cream color for the invitation (not white).

this is the template I am using.  She sent me a sample to try out, so I could make sure I liked it before purchasing it.

I wanted to do mine through the wallmart site as well, but I don't see any packages with RSVP and envelopes as you describe. how did you do that? I can only find where you can order everything individually.

Here is the one we are looking into.  I like the fact that the customer service is great (according to reviews) in case I need anything.

I have seen some nice DIY packages from craft stores too.  Just not sure if the extra work is worth the savings.

They are included, just have to read a little more into it.

This is the one I'm using: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Print-Your-Own-Invitations-Kit-Happy-Day/24549087

If you scroll down to item description it says about the RSVP cards and envelopes. They have a bunch of wilton's kits on there.

If you search wedding invitations it will pull up all their kits :) Let me know if you need more help!

  • Does Staples do a good job with printing?  Did you have to pre-cut the linen paper for them?  Has anyone used a FedEx / Kinkos for the template printing?
  • @Jenni1221--those are really nice!!

I used Wedding Paper Divas and have been extremely pleased with them. You can actually add custom design/coloration to a lot of their standard templates to create your own suite which is what we did. Their customer service was outstanding and I appreciated the live chat as well as phone support since my order was not exactly straightforward :)

That being said, I have used FedEx/Kinkos for template printing stuff for work and they are my preferred vendor when I have to get something done. YMMV depending on location but they have always been extremely helpful and you cannot beat their turn around time!
  • I used annsbridalbargains.com and they were great! I got 100 invitations with reception card, rsvp, and printed return addresses on invitation envelope and response envelopes for 200 dollars!
