What was your "security" item as a kid or (if you didn't have one) your favorite toy? Did someone make it for you or are there any other special things about the toy?

Mine was a blanket. My great-grandmother made it for me.

Re: Random question

  • Mine was a blanket. It was a thin yellow blanket my Aunt made for me. I called it "my yellow blankie" It had a cute flower pattern on it, it was really long. Had it up till like my teen years.

  • I didn't have one.

I do however have a thread bare towel that I love that I've had since I was 8 or 9 that I use as a hair towel.  I refuse to use anything else, though it barely have any umff to it left, it just enough absorption so that my curly hair doesn't get too crazy.
  • I have a blanket that I got in preschool. I still sleep with it and wrap it around my head when I'm really stressed about something, lol.

  • Mine was also a blanket that my aunt's best friend's mom and I keep it in my cedar hope chest.

  • FI still has his childhood blankie.

I have a little playschool lamb that is cloth on the front and satiny on the back and has a flat round rattle inside. She is called Shaky Baby and I still sleep with her... I've had her since birth. I remember being in a swing (on of those big plastic kiddie diaper-shaped ones) and dropping her in a huge mud puddle and screaming bloody murder when my mom took her in to wash her.

  • I had a teddy bear when I was a kid.
  • baby blanket :) It was also both of my brothers.

  • I had a stuffed rabbit named "rattle" on account of the rattle it had in its tail. It was a gift from my great aunt when I was born. I left it in a cabin on vacation when I was 13. When I realized it was gone I realized I was over having a security item. In hindsight, I wish I tried to get it back, at least so I could give it to my kids when they come around.

  • I had a teddy bear when I was little. Now, I sleep with a special "travel" pillow my friend gave me 10 years ago for my birthday. If I don't have it, I have trouble sleeping.

  • This is Theodore J. Bear. He's looking poorly, and spends most of the year wrapped in tissue paper, but I bring him out during the Christmas season. I have no idea why he's sideways.
  • I never had a security thing. I had various stuffed animals but nothing that I connected with. I did, on the other hand, have an invisible friend. Maybe that's my security thing. But that ended not long after I made her up. Is it too late for a security blanket? I have an electric blanket that I do love....
  • I had a blanket and a bear. The blanket is in the closet. The bear protects the dresser.
  • I had the blanket I was brought home from the hospital with.  Slept with it every night until I left for college I did not bring it with me.  I still have it in storage somewhere though. We always joked it would be my "something old" and a part would be pinned inside my dress, but that never happened.

  • My mom was having surgery and i was staying at my great grandmas. I didnt understand what was going on and I was scared. She gave me a hospital blanket I claimed as my blankie. I kept it for a very long time but the dryer slowly ate it and I had to give it up.

  • I find it interesting that a lot of you not only still have your blanket (or whatever it is) but still have it out or even sleep with it. I just found mine in a box (hence what prompted this question) and it has wormed its way into bed with me countless times.

Funny story: When I was six, my mom tried to convince me to give up Bankie. She did this by saying that when I got older, I would get married. But what man would marry a girl would still slept with a security blanket. Six-year-old me told her that I would just find someone who loved me and Bankie. So when I found Bankie, I told my husband about her and of course Bankie has come to bed with us quite often. So I told him what my mom had said to me. And he told me that he thought it was nice that I still have and still love Bankie. Score one for six-year-old me!!!!!
  • Teddy917 Not an issue for me...FI still has his own blankie! Haha. My mom once offered making me a large baby quilt (she was in the middle of nursing school when she had me and didn't get to make me one) and cut Shaky baby apart and us her as material...I was horrified!
