How are you ladies doing your hair?  I am worried about looking to matronly but the style I thought I loved I just tried at home and it looks ridiculous on me, like I'm trying to be 12.  Anyone have pictures or ideas for finding the right balance?

Re: Let's talk about hair.

  • Are you looking for an up-do or do you want a loose style? Long or short? Veil, hairpiece or nothing at all?
  • I always think a chignon is a great, timeless style.

That's what I originally thought I wanted but the pulled back styles make me look much older than 43.  I have really long, thick hair so I think I'm just going to do a half up half down. And keep my bangs down.  Bangs are cheaper than botox.
  • What about still up, but not so tight back, maybe a few tendrils coming down.  I never looked good with ALL my hair back when I was 15!

Best. Quote. EVER! I've had bangs since the 7th grade and, at 43, I'm still rockin' the heavy bang. I was originally planning on going with my hair down, heavy bangs, no veil, possibly a headband. But, since hot flashes have just started, I'm also at a loss as to how to keep the hair off my neck so I don't sweat all over everyone. A chignon is a great idea!
  • Indeed.  Bangs are cheaper than botox is an amazing quote.

I say, get a mirror and start playing with you hair.  I have seen pictures of myslf with my hair up, and I really look fat.  I'm doing a partial up do....really I'm just pulling my hair back on top, leaving the bangs down, and big fluffy curls.    You may also want to consider the dress style.  What looks great in a t-shirt may not look right with a strapless dress. If your dress is strapless, wrap a gown around your chest so your shoulders are bare and see how it look that way.

I asked my fiancé how he liked my hair the best.  He said he likes it long and flowing, so that sealed it.  Does your fiancé have a preference?

  • I am wearing mine down, with some waves to frame my face. I am planning on wearing a embellished tiara and a veil, and am working on growing my hair longer.
