I don't know, I just don't. I spend as much time as I can with FSIL and I can't help but SMH when I am with her. We went out to lunch recently, just the 2 of us, and we were discussing family holidays. She came straight out and said that she doesn't cook and that she doesn't want to put the burden of cooking on her husband as he doesn't like feeling pressured. She asked if I could do Christmas Eve instead, since (as she put it) "You cook all the time and have a better working knowledge of the kitchen. You probably won't burn the food." I told her I would have to discuss it with FI as I didn't want to say yes and find out that he wants to go to FFIL's house instead.
I had Thanksgiving here last year and it was a huge success. My FSIL brought an Apple Pie and Ice Cream, which she said she was going to bring. My FMIL brought over some weird Cranberry sauce, but it was pretty tasty. Thanksgiving I can handle as the tradition is turkey, mashed potatoes, candied yams, stuffing, gravy, corn and some other veggie, and desserts. Christmas Eve, I'm unsure of their family traditions and I don't want to throw my family traditions into it and have it not be accepted...or liked. I've talked with FI about Christmas Eve and he said that he doesn't see why we couldn't do it, but he wants to wait until after Thanksgiving as we need to talk with FFIL to see what his plans are.
FSIL called last night, and started asking about Christmas Eve. We just had lunch last Wednesday, so I told her, (again) that FI and I have to discuss it more and would get back to her. She said she needs to know so she can start planning on what to bring. I told her we have a month and a half to worry about what to bring and that I should know by Thanksgiving if we are doing Christmas Eve. She said that she needs to know by Friday. I told FI and he said told me to not worry about it.
Why is FSIL being so demanding on something like this? Last year we didn't know what was going on for Christmas Eve until the week before. Why does she need to know by Friday for this year??? Arg!!!!!
