Finally going dress shopping - need recommendations

I'm in Hudson County but willing to travel to find the right dress at a shop that will not try to bleed me dry.  Where did you get your dress?

Re: Finally going dress shopping - need recommendations

  • Jaehee in Englewood. They had a huge selection. They werent the warmest but they beat every other price.

I also went to Kleinfeld (HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!), RK, Pronovias, and Wedding Atelier in the City.

Castle Couture in Marlboro may be worth a trip also.

But you must know your budget bc "bleeding you dry" could be anything. My budget was up to $6-7k which, for some shops, was low and for others it was a great budget.

  • I made the trip to the Alfred Angelo Signature Store in Cherry Hill, but that was because a lot of the bridal salons didn't carry some larger sizes and since I'm a curvier bride to be, I wanted to be able to try them on and not buy blind.

  • I went to East West Bridal in Secaucus and had a wonderful experience. My budget was about $1200-1500, and I ended up ordering a dress for under $1000. I even tried on a sample gown that was for sale for $450; it just wasn't my style. My consultant was Jennifer, but their entire staff is great.

What details do you want about kleinfeld? I didnt like my experience there. I felt rushed and they were not friendly to me at all. I also think their dresses are marked up higher than everywhere else. There are plenty of reviews and/or threads where people have talked about them.

  • I also went to East West Bridal.  I found a dress that was well under my budget and loved the large selection.  I tried Jahee as well, but they kept bringing dresses at the top of my budget and nothing really struck me.
  • I've been to Bijou Bridal, Tina's Bridal, David's Bridal in Paramus, and Jaehee Bridal. I can honestly say out of those four places the one i would reccomed the least is jaehee. The people were not nice and they barely let you look and pick out the gowns to try on. I was not pleased with there at all. The three other stores were fabulous! I'm trying East West bridal this weekend, fingers crossed for a good experience!
  • Park Avenue Bridals in Verona, NJ.
  • @katieb106, I loved East West! They let me pick out the dresses I wanted to try on and didn't pressure me to buy anything that same day. They actually encouraged me to "sleep on it" for a while before placing my order. My BMs, my mom and FMIL all ordered their dresses from there as well.

  • I ordered my dress from Arlene's Bridal in Bloomfield (FI's Aunt works there) and my girls are getting their dresses from Hollywood Bridal in Kenilworth.  Hollywood has been a pleasure to work with.

I second Bijou Bridal up in Paramus, they were super helpful; Castle Couture is also a good one. They have a ton of dresses in many price ranges. I ended up getting my dress at Sassy Chic Boutique in Red Bank, though. They don't have a lot of stock, but I went for a Pronovias trunk show and got a great deal. They're also very nice, family-run, etc.
  • I bought my wedding dress from Park Avenue Bridal in Verona both times but bought my bm dresses from Hollywood Bridal in Kenilworth and have been happy with them and I know they sell bridal gowns. Alterations are included in their price for the dress.

Hollywood Bridal in Kenilworth. Amazing staff and they have a nice selection of gowns. Plus, the bride gets her own private room to try on dresses so all the attention is on you. And yes, alterations are included in the price.

That kind of feedback is what I was looking for.  Most of my close NYC friends are determined that we should shop there for my dress and I'm not so sure.

  • I have heard good things about Hollywood Bridal in Kenilworth too. I plan on going there when I start looking.

  • I had a fab experience with Elizabeth Johns (personal attention, champagne, unlimited time, picture taking). They carry some high end designers, so def let them know your budget so your not trying on dresses you can't afford. They did not show me anything I couldn't afford.
  • I had An amazing experience at kleinfelds. Personally I didn't want to step into that place but my sisters and mother talked me into it and I'm so glad they did. I was afraid it was going to be too much of a factory, but my 90 minute appointment with Camille was over two hours and was amazing! They really know their stuff there! The dresses are no more expensive than anywhere else. Try asking them to ship itto your house in nj to avoid the sales tax (I did!!).

I also got to meet the designer of my dress and he was so great! I cannot recommend them more! Go! And ask for Camille!
  • I would HIGHLY recommend I Do....I Do,.... in Morristown. I cannot recommend them enough. I got my shoes from Elizabeth John's and they were pretty great there as well. I also went to East West and the place in the same shopping center because I was dying to try on more dresses one day and did not have an appointment. I forget the name of the other place, but it was a horrible experience and I walked right out. East West had a nice selection and the women were nice, but it was certainly not a "bridal salon experience." However, I will admit that their prices were better. I Do... I Do... just did a veterans day giveaway as well which was pretty amazing!
  • Ended up at Hollywood Bridals.  Love the staff there.  Thanks all.
  • I had an AWFUL experience at Park Avenue Bridals in Verona.  My consultant was inattentive, did not regard the price range I gave her, and didn't even ask me my size, so she kept bringing me dresses that were to small until I insisted I needed larger.  I asked her to choose a few for me since I didn't know what the pricing was on the dresses and she told me no, and to pick them out myself.  I ended up leaving after trying on two dresses.

I went to David's Bridal is Totowa after and had an amazing experience.  Ba'aan there and the manager Melissa hand picked about 10-15 dresses out for me based on ONE magazine picture I showed them, and I loved every one.  I got a dress for below my budget and absolutely love it.  They took their time with me and made me feel like I was the only one in the store.  I highly recommend going there!

Ba'aan was my consultant, too!  I had first gone to the David's in Paramus and had an awful experience. So I switched to Totowa, had a great experience, and found my dress!

Hi, I dont know how late I am, but, I personally went to Kleinfelds and it was my best experience, remember in NYC there is tax but if you have a good understanding of pricing all prices are negotiable.  Due to the amount of dresses that you have access to, it is worth the trip to get a feel of what you want, try on different silouhettes, etc.  I actually found my dress here but didnt order it yet because the dress is not going to be released until this summer.  I will say I priced the dress at other locations and the prices were about the same.  I did not feel rushed at all and in fact I was asked and motivated to try on more dresses.

Hollywood Bridal is GREAT! It's one stop shop, wonderful bridal experience AND it's great for bridesmaid dresses.  Also they have a tux shop right in the same space.  Also the fact that alterations are included is amazing and they do amazing work.

    Good luck and have fun!

That stinks.  I got my dress at Park Ave and my consultant was wonderful!  She started out by picking 5 dresses based on my budget that she thought would look good on me.  I tried to pick some out myself to help but she was faster.  :D  She nailed it.  I got the 2nd dress she picked out.  We mustn't have had the same consultant!

I had previously been to another boutique as well as David's Bridal.  Both awful in terms of selection and quality for me.
