Underwear help!

Hi, ladies! I just ordered my dress, and it'll be here in about 2-3 months. In the meantime, I want to start hunting down the right underwear (bra-wise).

About my dress: It's strapless and sweetheart; it has a "corset top," but I'm 99% sure it's a zipper and the "corset" is just the style + boning, with no lacing.

I'm a 36C, and I'd like something more than just a long-line bra. Something that isn't too bulky is better; my current strapless bra is VERY bulky and makes me a bra size bigger than I actually am. Additionally, regular ol' strapless bras have to dig in a LOT to stay up, and end up giving me hives. I definitely want something more corset-y in terms of style, but I don't care so much about the shapewear/slimming abilities of said underwear.

Any recommendations for vendors/websites/underwear?

Re: Underwear help!

  • Cups sewn into the dress is 100% the best option for a sweetheart neckline.

I wore a longline bra (with a straight across strapless dress) and I wish I wouldn't have. It made me look sooooo busty (which I'm sure DH liked...)
  • if it says corset top- then its an actual corset top. you cant have a corset with a zipper.

Id go with sewn in bra cups and some sexy panties from VS.

  • I think it has boning, but zips up in the back. I haven't seen the dress in person (long story), but the other dresses I've seen by this designer have zipper backs.

How effective are sewn in cups for support? I definitely need real support.

  • unless it has a very low bow i dont think it would need boning and a zipper. Usually you need boning to keep the fabric in place for the corset tie back-- thats what a zipper does so to have both is pointless.

If you get the right size cup, they are just as supportive as a normal bra.

I have big boobs (42D) and I can't stand feeling unsupported. I had cups sewn into my wedding dress and they were fine. It's definitely a little more "free" feeling then wearing a bra, but for one day it was good enough.
  • Okay, thanks ladies!

@WedReMix13 Honestly, I really have no idea. I do have a party dress that has a zipper as well as boning, so I guess I'm not totally weirded out that this dress will likely have both. I agree that the boning probably isn't necessary with the zipper, but you'd have to ask the designer!
