So apparently its really rude of me to not to invite everyone to the civil ceremony and people will talk crap about me if i only invite them to a formal dinner celebrating our marriage that night!!!! These women from the E-board really and truly need a life and to have several seats...

Im just letting you know, that if you do that... its incredibly rude. People will judge you for it.. because they will think that they are good enough to come to a party and bring gifts for you without actually see you be married. 

So, unless youre not going to be wearing your wedding dress, and not going to cut a wedding cake, and not have ANYTHING wedding related..but are just having a dinner... youll be fine. IF you do all those things... youre going to be offending a few people. 


I would check out the etiquette board if I were you. Just trying to save you from embarrassment and people talking shit about your "wedding" .

And again regardless of what you may think is considered etiquette I'm only asking for venue locations or recommendations...I could care less what ppl say especially those women on the etiquette board...if you don't have any suggestions of a venue then you telling me who should or shouldn't come to a civil ceremony means nothing to me....thank you

    I can only assume that these women hold no power over ANYTHING else in their lives because they are so quick to tell people what they should or shouldn't do.  I'm sure they would tear me a new one  if I posted about those handful of people I only invited to the AFTER PARTY!!! LOL!!

    I mean I'm all about etiquette but you can do what you want. It is your wedding and you know your crowd. The women over there have completely different expectaions (cultural maybe? Idk) than the average person. I have a grandma that WON'T LET ME LIVE so my wedding will be by the book.

    All that being said, what you are doing aint even breaking rules. Super intimiate ceremony with a catered dinner after? no ones gonna be offended if you can inly have 4 peiple at your civil ceremony. Not that it matters but I think that's actually the only time those ettiqute people are cool with that. she got over excited and just had to try to save you and ended up making a a scene

    T please don't spend any more time in the back and forth with this particular poster when it's clear that the problem is her comprehension.  After she quotes the post where you explain that the courthouse does not provide the room to accommodate your guests, she goes on to tell you how rude you are not to accommodate them.   If she is cognitively impaired, this isn't fair.   If not, get away from her nonetheless, stupidity is contagious.

    Lemme tell ya'll something. The best wedding I went lasted 5 minutes. It started on time. The bride and groom exchanged rings, had no wedding party beside themselves, and we spend the other 3.91 hours having an awesome time. I know there are some people who just have to have a the formal to-do, but seriously, the best part is the reception. @misstira, that so-called diva was trying to be a controll freak and it ain't her wedding. If one of my friends invited me to his or her reception and not the wedding, I would be overjoyed. (and if you have friends and family taking behind your back, they shouldn't be there in the first place)

    WYS^^^^!! Let the church say Amen. They kill me talking about being proper and polite, but are some of the rudest (bad bad word inserted here) ever. Ugh they make me sick. I get so mad sometimes. Finding this board was a blessing cause I was on my way to deactivating my account.

    It's true that some will be put off that they were not invited to the ceremony. However I think it would be exponentially more problematic if the situation were reversed. I mean, you're inviting more people to the part that's actually going to cost YOU MORE money. These additional guests will be getting a free meal and booze. To be honest, I'm sure most guests would rather skip to that part anyway. :-D 

    Seriously though, everyone knows that courthouse weddings allow a very small group of people. I don't see an issue with your plans.

    I felt the same way over at the Gay Weddings board.  There, the moderator and I had a debate on the proper etiquette of Honeyfund.com. Thank goodness for the African-American wedding board because all others have hateful people.

    Wow!  They have so much mouth when they are behind a computer screen.  We have to be careful with out words and not be judgmental.  It is YOUR WEDDING!!!!  Do what makes you happy. Period. End of the story. So sad these women have so much to say when they 1. Don;t know you 2. Dont know your crowd, 3 Arent contributing to your wedding 4. Sit behind a computer with a lot of mouth but don't offer valuable contributions that are beneficial to your planning. I say your idea is great!  It will be ok. Trust me. People that are happy for you are happy regardless of if you invite them or not. I had people that didnt attend at all send gifts and love.  Remember....Its your day...
