Brides with children?!

Any brides here with children?  Are you going to include them in your ceremony?  I have a 7 year old who my FI will be adopting-- and then my FI has 4 children as well aged 7-14.  We are having all the children be involved in the wedding-- FI's 2 oldest boys are groomsmen, his oldest daughter is a bridesmaid.  My son and his youngest daughter will be (older) ring bearer/flower girl.  But we're wondering if we shouldn't do something in the ceremony as well.

Re: Brides with children?!

  • I don't personally have kids, but my best friend got married a while back and they already had a 3-year-old daughter, so she was their flower girl; they didn't feel the need to do anything additional in the ceremony. However, I have seen other weddings where the newly-blended family will do some version of a unity ceremony incorporating their kids (ie: each gets a different colour of sand to pour into a vase). I've also seen one wedding where they incorporated their kids into their vows -- they started with vows to each other, then said vows to their own and each other's kids while the kids stood nearby, and then they ended with family-centric vows.

  • We are including our kids in the wedding. My two daughters are Jr. BM and his son is the Jr. GM. My oldest son is walking me down aisle. We are doing a sand ceremony and a family dance.

  • I don't have any children, but my FI does. I use the term children loosely here because they are all over 21. They are pretty shy and don't really want to stand up in front of everyone so they won't be included in the ceremony in any way.

  • i have thre aged 10,6,5.fiance has 3 aged 11,8,5.we are going to give them littel trinkets instead of sand or unity candle.just something to commemorate all of us coming together as a family.so the fi will give each of my boys a gift and i will give his 3 a gift at the same time.simple, quick and it involves them without having them in the actual wedding party.that way its fair and even and they will each have a keepsake forever.
  • My kids will be 5 when we get married...they are definitely in the ceremony! It's not only a wedding for my fiance and I getting married, but it's a celebration of our family coming together! So excited! :)
  • We have a 5 year daughter (who refers to it as our wedding) which it is. It is so cute how excited she is. We will be including her in the sand ceremony and she is our flower girl as well!
