Ring bearer outfit?

My 2 cousins are each having their 4 year old son be a ring bearer in the wedding, but I'm wondering what did you have your ring bearer wear? I want to cover the cost of them and mens wearhouse to rent a little boys suit is the same as a grown mans! (ridiculous!) So I am going with buying their outfits and hopefully they will be able to wear them again before they grow again! My cousins mentioned they would like to shop on their own closer to the date as the boys are obviously growing quickly at times. Do you think it would be fine to just do a white dress shirt and black pants? Is a tie necessary? What did your ring bearer wear that day? Thanks for any tips/your stories! ( :

Re: Ring bearer outfit?

  • I think black pants and white dress shirt would be fine The boys are more likely to be comfortable in that compared to a suit or tux and if they are comfortable, they are more likely to not throw a tantrum.. A little bow tie would look adorable, and it can be black or in a color from your wedding. That is something you can buy already as long as it's adjustable. They probably won't wear that part long. Also consider allowing them to wear black tennis shoes or casual black shoes so that they can be worn again and easier for the boys to walk in compared to black dress shoes.
  • We bought black pants for the boys from Macys and a white button up dress shirt, also from Macys.  And we ordered little cute bow ties to match our colors online somewhere.

  • I would get them stuff they can wear again - black or tan pants and a white button down is very versatile.

If your wedding is more formal, buy a suit on sale on Black Friday, Cyber Monday or after Christmas.

  • I'm getting married in May. My nephew is growing like a weed so we are going to wait until around Easter and look for a suit for him. He's in a wedding in June too so my sister is going to talk to that bride to see if he can wear it to her wedding too.

  • Thanks for your tips! I think I'll just have them get a white shirt, black pants, and shoes if they don't have them. I'll search around for some ties as a possibility, if they don't get bought, it'll still be a wedding (:
  • I think a white shirt, black pants, and dress shoes are perfectly suitable.  We spent over $120 renting a tux for FI's 6 year old son to be in a wedding, so I feel your pain- it's ridiculous.

For our wedding, we are buying FI's son the best suit $30 at Walmart/ Target can offer. I've seen them on the racks and for 30-35$ you get pants and a jacket. They look perfectly nice and for the few hours it'll be on (and the maybe one other time he'll get to wear it before he outgrows it) it's perfect.

  • We purchased the outfits for our ring bearers, but I believe they were only $15 each.  We got them at Burlington Coat Factory. They have a lot of options for dress clothing for little boys for cheap.

    They are purchaseable online.  www.burlingtoncoatfactory.com

  • I was at Meijer the other day and they have two or three different versions of little suit sets. I think a grey one, a tan/blue one and a black/red one, for pretty cheap. You can always check there.

What we're doing is having khaki pants, white button ups, and bowties/suspenders in our colors.
