Has anyone else seen this?

This link was one of the daily advertised ones that popped up when I logged on. I clicked it, thinking (hoping) I might get some good advice...and some of it was, except the first and last tip.

First of all, I do not care nor do I have the time or money to chuck into weekly manicures simply because I'm engaged and "people will be looking at my nails more." What do they expect people with 2, 3, 5 year engagements to do?

Also the last tip...I am not now, nor will I ever, wax my "peace fuzz" as they put it. I guess I'm one of those lucky ladies who doesn't have noticeable hair above my lip, but TK's concern is for the pictures. Well, can't that be edited out/touched up? Plus, isn't that a "once you start you can't stop" thing? Ugh.

  • I found the first tip pretty obnoxious.  I like to get manicures, but I'm not going to do it more or less because I'm engaged.  You are not the center of attention to the point that so many people will want to look at your hand!  And yeah, your point about cost is apt.  Spending $15/week on your nails adds up to $60/mo... $720 per year... that's a whole bunch of plates at your wedding!  I try to save the money when possible by doing my own nails at home, and only get a pro mani for a treat.

The tip about glossy vs matte lips seemed sort of wrong to me.  I think lipstick lasts way longer than gloss, and lipstick is way better for kissing.  Gloss would go all over the place!

And yes, I have peach fuzz and I wax it myself at home.  Sometimes I forget and it's not awful, but I feel better when it's gone.  But incidentally, I no longer wax my brows.  Since I started filling them in, I find I only need to tweeze a stray once in a while.  Strong brows ftw!

I read it actually like two days ago. I've never ever had a mani (okay maybe one) but have used my real nails constantly. I'm still debating if I want real or fake for my wedding. I think it will come down to what my nails look like up to then.

I do wax my upper lip, but I don't do it constantly. I do it maybe 3-4 times a year if that, costs about $20 to do lip and eyebrows, so no big.

On the starting to fill eyebrows in- ugh!! I'm battling with mine. The person that waxes me suggested to me to let them fill in, so I've been growing mine out for over 6 months now and they're still not in. Imma have to invest in a good brow pen and fill it in :/ It looks weird now.

  • @melbelleup I thought filling them in would be onerous, but it's pretty easy and quick.  I also have some brow weirdness, one is naturally fuller than the other.  I use Benefit Brow Zings, a little powder and wax combo, which really has everything you need.  Tiny brushes and itty bitty tweezers included.  On days when I am super rushed, or at the gym, Benefit Gimme Brow is awesome.  It's a brow gel with little fibers in it that helps beef up your brows.

thanks!! The reason I first started waxing is because i burned my eye brow with a hair straightener (9th grade) lol. The one side is fine with regrowing, the side I burned off is half the size as the other. yay me!

  • Lol, the manicure one my mom suggested to me! But, I don't think weekly is going to happen, especially with my job! But, I will probably go get a manicure and a haircut right before I go see my mom's side of the family in December so that I can show off a bit ;-)

I love how they say go weekly for a mani and for a splurge get the shellac...getting that once would be way cheaper than getting a weekly mani at my place! Crazy
    ~xoxo~

  • Glad I'm not the only one who was a little put off by it!
  • I don't do manicures because of my job, they crack right away. If I'm going to a special event I get Gel nails and it usually lasts about 2 weeks. There is no way I can afford to get a gel manicure every 2 weeks. (Well I can technically afford it but I don't want to waste my money on it) I don't have a ring yet but even if I did I won't wear it to my job so...no one is going to be looking at my hands that close!

I used to get my eyebrows threaded and they always asked me if I wanted my lip done and I always said no. I know I have a little bit of fuzz but its only noticable if you are right in my face! I'm thinking eventually I'll get laser hair removal!

  • Doesntplaynice82 I used to get my eyebrows threaded but I pretty much just shape them and tweeze them myself now. As long as I stay on top of it they don't get too unruly. I mean, I know everyone has hair everywhere, but the hair above my lip is pretty much invisible. So I'm not going to start waxing it and making it noticeable.
  • I tweeze my own eyebrows and lip.  I do it almost every day because if I don't pluck a couple hairs every day, I end up having to pluck a ton after a few days.  I have pretty dark hair so I'd love to get my lip and between my eyebrows lasered someday.

Manicures, I almost never even paint my nails.  They just chip or I pick at them.  I was going to get a nice manicure for the first time for the wedding but forgot.
