Winter Wedding- Bridesmaids in pants with boots and scarfs?

I am getting married in late winter so cold and snow are inevitable, I was wondering if anyone thinks having my sisters wear black leggins, boots and a nice grey jacket with a mustard scarf would look too informal? I am not having an overly traditonal wedding and grey/mustard are my colors. Im thinking somehting similair to this picture but no hats. Thanks

Is your wedding going to be outside or in a ski lodge? If not it might look odd. Perhaps a black skirt with black tights and boots and a jacket would work better for an indoor ceremony.

I was thinking the same thing. Unless it's outside, I'd imagine it'd be hot and uncomfortable to be in all day.

Is the reception inside? If so what will the wear then? Leggings are not pants so they would need a long top or a dress over them. Leggings, coat, boots, a scarf and a top/dress, is a lot of clothing to expect them to purchase and could get expensive unless you are planning to pay.

I think I would be ok. Choose a nice simple wintery dress if you'll be inside. Jackets are pricy so I don't suggest making them buy a dress and jacket they may already have similar ones though.

I am having a winter wedding here in Alberta. Usually around -4F and tons of snow at that time of year! My sister is wearing a long strapless dress and a fur shawl. And then we are both putting on Uggs for the outside pictures.

I think you can still be warm but in dresses. All depends on your style though.

Leggings are not pants. But they can be worn under a skirt, tunic, or dress. Maybe black leggings and sweater dresses? If your ceremony and reception are both inside though, I wouldn't worry about it. It gets HOT in a room with a lot of people. A better idea is to do sleeveless or strapless dresses (or blouses and skirts or trousers) with a cardigan or wrap. That way, they can take off the outer layer if they get too warm.

Those type of outfits are what I wear on a Saturday at the movies not a wedding. Also I think it would require your BMs/ sisiters to buy too much stuff. Jackets, scarves, blouse, etc.

The winter weddings I have been too had the BMs wear black tights. Actually one of my favorite looks was where the BMs all wore similar black dresses but each girl had a different pair of fun tights (polka dot, plaid, stripes, etc)

Cute if everything is outdoors, if it's indoors I would consider swapping out the jackets for sweater or knit dresses which you can probably find easily in charcoal and you can still bring in the yellow with scarves, but maybe not heavy winter ones, but some lighter weight accessory style ones.

It will give you a much more casual look, which there is nothing wrong with. With not knowing what your dress is like, it's hard to say if the whole look will be off or not. If you are wearing a formal wedding dress, then I would say it's too casual, but if you aren't going with a traditional wedding dress (like if you would be doing same look as BM but in white or ivory) I think it would look great.

I think it's a cute idea, but I agree with PPs - if the event is indoors, they will most likely be hot. What about a long sleeve dress and leggings?

no no and no to the pants idea that pict to picture of those girls were hired help to deliver stuff to wedding. get a nice dress that has a thicker material and get some kind of long sleeved bolero and tights

I like this idea plus the scarf to add your color if it's more like a pashmina than a winter scarf.

I'm with PPs, leggings can't replace pants - not to mention I think the look will be VERY dated a few years from now. I'd take ktjanesmom's advice and go for a more classic look that will better transition from indoors to outdoors.

I can't say I'd do something like that, but that's why it's your wedding, not mine. Different strokes, different folks. Ultimately, do what makes you happy so long as your bridesmaids aren't sweating and you won't have a "what was I thinking?" moment when you look at the pictures in a few months or years.

My MOH was married in October. It was colder than expected, so she added plaid trim--her favorite blackwatch plaid pattern in a wrap for her, and gave out matching scarves to the wedding party. She used a thin piece of the plaid as a napkin "ring"--tied the menu and napkin together with it. It looked more wintery, matched the cold snap, and now she wears the plaid wrap with other things.
