NER: Black Friday Wedding Discounts (xp)

edited November 2013 in Wedding Etiquette Forum
PSA...
Last year I bought my dress on Black Friday and DH's tux for a song!
My bridal boutique had 20% off my dress that day and a deal on gift certificates. Call around and see if any stores in your area are offering any deals on dresses or accessories.
DH wanted to buy a tux instead of renting. He got a Calvin Klein tux at Macy's, Originally $300, for $160. Around here that is cheaper than renting.
Need shoes? Good day to buy those cute designer shoes.
Some vendors will offer a discount for paying the full balance on BF. Check with yours.
Craft stores like JoAnn's & Michael's will obviously have sales.
Check and see what you need and what you can save on!

And don't forget postage is going up on Jan 1. If you can utilize Forever Stamps for invites but them before they go up. You'll need them for thank you notes at the very least.

GL!

Doh! You have until Jan 26 on the postage. Thanks dramamonkey for the correction! :)

  • Did not know about the stamps thing!  Thanks for the heads up - definitely getting those before the New Year!
  • Great advice!

We got my partner's suit on sale during Labor Day weekend. Much better than renting a tux, especially because he really needed a new suit anyway. It can be really easy to try to make all your wedding purchases ASAP, but it's important to time things right.

I'm thinking that after the holidays might be a good time to do my arts and crafts shopping. I need to make paper flowers (so I guess fake stems, hot glue gun) and I need vases for them.

  • @phira Dollar Tree is awesome for vases/glassware

I've been milking the Michael's and Hobby Lobby 40% off coupons for stuff I need. It's a little less convenient but worth it to save that large of a percentage!

Thanks for the tip on stamps!
