Venue help!

Hello! My fiancé is in the army and we are actually getting married this December at the Kent County Courthouse. However, we are planning to have a bigger wedding in 2015. We are looking to have around 120 people, that number isn't set though as half his family lives in Chicago, and half in Florida. We are trying to find some locations to go look at in December. He wants an outdoor ceremony, but he doesn't understand the "RI weather is unpredictable" thing, and I want to be able to have it moved inside, and we would both love somewhere on the water, though we know that's expensive. Any suggestions on a location and how to keep costs low?! Thanks so much!

Re: Venue help!

  • Wait, so you are getting married in December 2013, and then planning a second ceremony and a reception for 2015? Any particular reason?
  • May I suggest you check out this thread:  http://forums.theknot.com/discussion/996776/legally-married-now-having-a-real-wedding-stop-here-first-aka-the-ppd-faq-thread

What you're currently consiering is rude and tacky -- at best, it's a reenactment of a real wedding.  It's also a mockery of the many people who are happy to have city hall or courthouse weddings, as well as those who cannot legally be married.  May I suggest holding a vow renewal instead?

I'm always so amazed how on these boards so many women are so fast to be judgmental, rude and just plain tasteless when it comes to other brides.

Women should lift each other up, not rip them down!

There are many brides who choose to hold a larger ceremony and/or reception for many reasons after a smaller wedding...none of which is anyone's business but yours!!! Mockery? Oh geez....

With that being said....I would highly suggest the Quidnessett Country Club...very reasonably priced, no site fee and it's view of the Narragansett Bay is gorgeous. Ask for Lorraine! Happy wedding planning... :)
  • Thank you so much. I appreciate your words of wisdom and help. Thanks for your suggestion of Quidnessett, that is actually one of the places that I love the most, I attended a prom there when I was in high school and it's beauty has stuck with me! My fiancé and I will definitely be checking it out in December!
  • Oh I'm so glad to have helped! But...just so you know they book up very fast. I can't express enough...ask for Lorraine. She has been there 20+ years and is the most sweetest and workable of anyone I have ever met...there and at other places. Private message me your name and I'll tell her to keep an ear out for you!
  • MrsB - so basically we should encourage the OP to do something that is in extremely poor taste?  It's better to blow smoke up her butt with puppies and rainbows than give her the honest truth, which is exactly what Ven&Radio did?  Because Ven&Radio is 100% correct - every word in her post is spot-on.

OP - there is nothing wrong with throwing a larger party in 2 years, but don't deceive your guests.  Be honest and upfront with the fact that you are already married.  And please, read the thread that Ven&Radio posted.

Can ANYONE tell me where this bride even suggested she was going lie to her guests? She simply is asking for a venue option and what her plans were. How do you know she isn't planning on informing her guests...is it because she didn't come outright and say it? Ya know what they say about people who assume.....

Apparently you can't ask a simple question, you need to divulge EVERYTHING or else they will interpret and assume you're deceitful. smh The boards are to help ladies...and to be classy, not tasteless at best.
  • Mrs B I agree....I vote the mean girls off the island!
  • +1 for Quidnessett,  And I too agree that's its tacky and mean to tear down a stranger over the net
  • Rhode Island Country Club is beautiful, but I don't think it's reasonably priced. Not sure though. I am getting married outdoors at Chamberlain Farm in Berkley, MA. It is BEAUTIFUL! A hidden gem, I think. It is not by the water, unless the pond counts, but it is very outdoorsy. More like a woodsy, rustic feel. Very reasonably priced. It may be worth a shot just to check it out. It is a pavilion which is enclosed yet open, and a tent, which the sides can come down on so weather doesn't have to be a concern.
  • The Towers in Narragansett RI!
    Sarah Wedding Countdown Ticker
  • Roger Williams Park Casino isn't on the "water" water, but it has a pond, is beautiful, and affordable because it is owned by the city!
  • Harbor Lights Marina and Country Club in Warwick, RI
