Same item on different registries?

My FI and I registered at BBB and Macy's and found a china pattern that we loved that is carried by both stores.  It is a boxed set of china, which is why I selected it, and when it is on sale it is cheaper by quite a bit at Macy's, but otherwise the normal Macy's price is almost double that of BBB  (Macy's has had it on sale 2x since we registered last month).  Should I leave it on both and let my guests decide (If someone purchases), or list it on one?  The last thing I want is to be gift-grabby, I just wanted to be mindful of my guests and their budgets.

Thanks Ladies!

Re: Same item on different registries?

  • Personally, I would leave it on both. I would buy it where ever it was cheaper, regardless of where you registered. So I'd leave it on both. I don't think it is gift grabby. Especially because having duplicates of china is not a bad thing. GL!

  • I would say take it off; most people will shop around. We got ALL of our Pyrex (and then some!) from a relative who bought them at an outlet mall.

Our china was carried by both BB&B and Macy's, and while it's normally cheaper at BB&B, some people bought it at Macy's when it was on sale.

People will shop around, I promise you. What you might want to do instead is register for different parts of your china (the boxed set, the serving dishes, etc.) at different stores, so people know both stores carry the pattern and they can comparison-shop.

I'm gonna go with 'not my circus, not my monkeys.'

That's a great tip, thanks! Luckily that happened automatically for us since BBB doesn't carry certain parts of the set and Macy's does. So right now we have the boxed set on BBB and then individual place settings and things like the gravy boat and all that jazz on Macy's.  I'm just terrified of offending guests so I thought I'd poll you ladies since you all seem to know the right thing to do typically!

  • Take it off. If people care about saving money, they will shop around without you doing it for them.
  • If people shop around and care bout saving money I honestly can't see any downside to having it on both. As we have all stated people will buy where it is cheaper, so not having it on both doesn't reduce the chance of duplications. And if someone shops in store and doesn't look ahead of time (older guests do this a lot) then they can see all the options, not just what you chose to list at BBB vs Macy's. IMHO :)
