Weekend highs and lows

How were the holidays?  Any good times? Any drama?

Highs: DH's grandfather is doing ok.  He's had some more strokes, but is doing ok.  I got to spend some good time with my brother. We had some nice visits with family.

Lows: SIL was late to MIL's.  BIL said she had to work the night before, but she was really out drinking. BIL and his family of 5 bailed on FIL's dinner so they could be at Walmart at 4:30 for a tv.  bastard.

Also, Max's photog said we'd have preview pics last weekend.  I emailed him Friday afternoon for a timeline.  He said I'd have previews the evening and all pics last night.  Still nothing.  I'm doomed on pics.

Re: Weekend highs and lows

  • Surprisingly, no drama, but I'm sure it'll come in spades on Christmas when truly EVERYONE gets together.

I managed a stay of execution on setting up the Christmas tree by taking forever to put together a winter Lego set yesterday. Tonight I'm going to a Messiah sing-in and tomorrow I'm going to run at the gym after work, so I think I've added two days, but then I'm off on Wednesday and he's off at 3 that day, so I'll probably have to deal with Christmas at that point, sigh.

Either tonight or tomorrow, I'm buying the rest of the transportation for our honeymoon! Two train rides, two flights and a rental car for Iceland.

  • Thursday we did the great food thing.  Friday I did the shopping thing with my mom, aunt and two cousins.  Saturday we did the outside decorating thing because it was beautiful out.  Yesterday we did the grocery and football thing.

It was a pretty great long weekend.

  • Weekend was good.  I just hate having to travel for holidays.  It's always stressful, no matter how smoothly it goes.  We left our toiletries at home, so we had to make do on what everyone had with them, plus the $30 in travel size items I went to CVS and bought to get through the weekend.

Turkey day went great.  BIL and SIL made an awesome spread.  Asheville, NC is a ridiculously adorable city.  I want to go back sometime and explore more.  The Biltmore is truly magnificent.  I want to go back w/o kids because I feel like I missed a lot with having to keep track of DefConn (who was a rockstar and walked about 70% of the 2+ hour tour). Saturday, we went bowling.  We got home mid-afternoon yesterday.

I'm glad we're staying local for Christmas.
  • alla round good.
There was ZERO drama--I think having my parents host = not 'home' turf, so the people who are assy tend to reserve their assy for when they're at their homes/their parents' homes.  Which awas good.

We started Christmas baking this weekend (only snickerdoodles, everything else is still on the list, the list is to damn long) and I've made good headway w/ online shopping.

    and I'm exhausted.
  • We have pre-Christmas drama.  BIL is pissed at sSIL for picking a date his wife has to work (except I also learned that she had time to ask that off and didn't and her schedule isn't out so she just SUSPECTS she has to work).  We are going over the 22nd for this.  BIL is so pissed he wants to come to our house the 20th to give gifts then boycott the 22nd.  That's really only hurting his mom.

Working wife is pissed that I said we weren't going to make their holiday open house/potluck because I'm not going anywhere Christmas day.  This is nothing new for us to stay home.

  • Oh, I forgot!  We went to a hockey game on Saturday night.  DH won a contest at work and first prize was the tickets and $100.  We looked at the tickets and noticed we were in the 3rd row.  Turns out, 3rd row = 1st row.  The kids thought it was so cool to be so close.  Right before the game started, one of the refs came over and gave DD2 a puck.  Right after I took her picture with it, she dropped it and it rolled down between the flooring and the wall in front of us and we couldn't find it.

We went to a hockey game too! We lost though, and the Flyers' fans were being real tools about it and getting all up in our faces marching around and screaming 'let's go Flyers' so I screamed back at them to suck a dick and left in a flood of indignant rage -- pretty much par for course with me when it comes to hockey games though. Nothing makes me more delightfully angry than hockey.

  • We watched hockey.  We  keep trying to get to the OSU/Miami game, but it always falls at a bad time.
  • I saw your pictures on FB, Taw...it looks like your kids had a blast.  Also, whenever I see a hockey puck I think of a DingDong and then I want chocolate.  *silence*

Good:  It was awesome seeing families for Thanksgiving, and it was nice to see my Brother and niece/nephew looking relaxed and happy.

Bad:  H has been so wrapped up with situations at work that it's starting to spill over into our lives and it's causing a quiet upheaval.  I suppose I actually need to get my head out of the sand once in awhile.  But we're talking about it, and hopefully we can work with our communication skills and get back to some sort of "easy".

Man, Bo Pellini was ready to kick some major ace over his teams' issues.  Also, HOW DO SO MANY PLAYERS HURT THEMSELVES!?!?!
  • It was a nice, slow four days off.  And I needed it.  Dinner was nice, nothing too big b/c none of us like having a ton of leftovers for days on end.
  • Weekend. Pretty good, ate a lot, relatively little drama.

Monday. FFS nobody's glad it's Monday. I had a hot mess of a toddler to console, everyone else in daycare was a hot mess, car was acting cranky, went in to see if an oil change might help. And work. Already rescheduled my coding seminar I'm supposed to give. Can't call in dead :(. I need my weekend already :(

  • Had a great week in SF with H, DD, my mom, Sister, Sister's FI and meeting FI's family. It was far too short of a trip and i miss my sister a lot. DD was fantastic on both of our flights and we got a lot of compliments from passengers and flight crew alike.

Weekend was good. We got home on Friday night so we recovered over the weekend. And because we had no T-day leftovers, H made Thanksgiving dinner for us last night. We got a turkey on sale, he made stuffing and roasted brussels sprouts and I made a killer gravy. YAY for lunches for the week!
  • Oh! Also, Thursday is Krampusnacht to all of those who have children. Very important holiday.

  • I had all last week off (staycation) and it was really nice.
Thanksgiving day was drama-free, except for my poor behavior.  I was having major anxiety issues for no apparent reason and could not get myself under control.  Everyone was being too loud and were in the way (not really, but that's how I felt).  I wasn't very friendly, and got really upset with DD about the same stuff she always does - - not wanting to eat and not listening to me. By the time I got to sit down to eat my food, I was doing much better.  The good news is, my contributions to Thanksgiving dinner were awesome.  I made deviled eggs, buttered noodles (for my picky eaters) and, for the first time ever, I made gravy.  My gravy was amazing, if I do say so myself.
My mom, DD and I decorated a gingerbread house on Friday.  It was so much fun!  None of us had ever made one before.   My mom had a mountain of leftover Halloween candy that was perfect for the house.  I hope this becomes a day-after-thanksgiving tradition for us.  We don't do the shopping thing.
Saturday was college football.  And sorting through DD's toys to get rid of "baby" stuff.
Yesterday, we prepped the living room to set up the tree.  (moving furniture, etc.)  Then we went to see Frozen in the afternoon.  We were supposed to put up the tree last night, but stuff happened and we didn't get to it.  (I'll explain in another post and poll.)
And now I'm back to work.
  • @oface4eva- it was a heck of a weekend for college football all around.
  • Thanksgiving Day we spent with DH's family except his brother and family never showed, and sent a text hours later that they had chosen to spend the holiday with his FI's family instead. So DH is equal parts hurt and pissed.

BIL now wants to do Christmas with DH's family but we already have plans with my family and I'm not willing ti reschedule my family's holiday just because BIL changed his mind. DH is on my side and told BIL that we had set up the holidays already.

I think we'll end up seeing them Christmas Eve for lunch.

We saw my parents on Saturday. I bought my 2.5yo nephew a Nativity nesting doll set (he is fascinated by nesting dolls). As I was taking it apart and naming the pieces --Joseph, Mary, Wise Man, Shepherd -- DH said, The shepherd is Alan.' Nephew now believes Alan (the) Shepherd was at the birth of Christ.
