How was everyone's Holiday?

Mine was good. Food was good. I picked up my dress and it looks great (yay!) On the downside- my FMIL just decided to make favors without asking me what I wanted and my mom decided that the MOTB gets to chose the ceremony music. Yay for planning.

How was everyone else's Thanksgiving? Based on the threads here, it doesn't look like I was the only one who had some wedding planning whoas over the weekend.

Re: How was everyone's Holiday?

  • Ours was basically good. We had agreed to spend Thanksgiving Day with DH's family, in part at the insistence of his brother. The day came, and BIL/FI/their son didn't show.

DH textex him and finally heard back four hours later, when BIL said, 'Oh yeah, we decided to do the holiday with FI's mother instead. Better offer.'

So DH is equal parts pissed and hurt. BIL now wants to do something at Christmas, but (a) we have plans with my family and (b) DH doesn't believe BIL will follow through.

We made plans with his BSC grandmother for Christmas Eve, but only for lunch and not at her house.

Gma got a cat and we have discovered she can't really keep up with its litter pan needs, so her house now reeks of cat urine amd faeces. You walk into the house and it hits you like an obnoxious, malodorous, noxious wave. We left after dinner and I had to Febreeze my coat at work to get the smell out.

In funny news, I bought my nephew (2.5 yrs old) a Nativity nesting doll set. He is fascinated by nesting dolls and last year he accidentally decapitated the Blessed Mother in my parents' porcelain Nativity set, so I wanted him to have his own.

As we were un-nesting them, I was naming them --Joseph, Mary, Wise Man, Shepherd -- and DH interjected, The shepherd is Alan.' So now the nephew thinks Alan (the) Shepherd was at the birth of Christ.

  • Ours was nice and low key. Went to FH parents on Thurs and to my parents on Sun. FMIL is pissy that we aren't going there for Christmas, so she has arranged a family party on Sat Dec 21. Fine with me. I'm over her right now.
  • @hisgirlfriday13, I love your nephew! So cute with the Christmas decapitation and Alan the Shepherd!
  • Mine was really good! Though I feel like I need to starve myself for a few days after all the gorging I did. I ended up attending 3 different Thanksgiving feasts. Ugh. My pants feel tight.
  • Haha Alan the Shepherd, that's great.

I had a pretty busy holiday.  Mom was here from OOS last week and I cooked like three different meals because Mom is newly vegetarian and Sis is really picky.  Then Mom forgot to take home her leftovers... oops.  Too much food in my house.

Fi and I spent T-day with my dad's family, and my grandmother surprised us by offering to buy my wedding dress!  It was really sweet.  I'm nervous for how Mom will feel about this, so I actually haven't told her yet... oops again.  Left her a voicemail today so I'll tell her when she calls back.

Meanwhile we had two friends get-togethers: first was our annual Friends Thanksgiving with Fi's high school friends, complete with an adorable baby who now is part of the group.  Then an ugly sweater party with some of our other friends, and we ended up staying there until 3:30am talking politics and whether Andrew Jackson or Abraham Lincoln was a better president.  This is how I know we're really adults now... babies and politics at parties!

  • Ours was fun! My sister and her family flew in for a few days, and I made little gift bags asking my sis to MOH and her daughter to be a bridesmaid. They were thrilled! I made a feast on Thursday, then we went into the district on Friday and walked it off seeing all the monuments. Went out to dinner (found a really yummy Ethiopian place) and then they left Saturday. Spent yesterday taking DS on a nature walk at our local park and baking cookies together (since I obviously didn't gorge enough over Thanksgiving). All in all a good time, and I'm sad to be back at work. :(

I love that you argued AJ vs AL. My husband is a Civil War historian, so he's AL all the way, but I secretly love AJ because he's a badass.

I'm with you! I also totally love AJ's badassery. :)

Yep, this was the essence of our argument!  AL is obviously the bomb, but AJ was just such a badass.  We actually got into a sub-argument about whether AJ should be considered the last of the founding father presidents or the first of a new wave, because he expanded presidential power so much.  And then my law student brain started debating which one was legit in suspending habeus corpus, both or neither.  Good times.

  • Overall our was good.
  • It was really great. And I was at the "Iron Bowl" (Auburn vs Alabama) this weekend which was just INSANE (in an amazing way since I'm a huge Auburn fan). I have no words and still get goosebumps watching the replay and listening to the call by the Auburn announcer. I also have no voice because I was screaming/cheering like a maniac for pretty much 4 hours straight and then for hours after the game!

As long as my voice comes back by Sunday (wedding day!) all will be well :)
  • Great food. Great company. The only thing besides this past weekend, which was so much drama and emotions everywhere, I am so glad the weekend is over, that bothered me and upset me was on Thanksgiving a phone call I had with my mother.

Other than that =) It was very relaxing and nice to see all the in laws =D

  • @alisonmarie658--I didn't. We were in the upper deck and just enjoying watching it all, cheering with everyone and taking it all in--didn't want to leave that to fight my way down there!
