Jewelry...

Ugh, I'm not having a good time finding anything I really like.  I have to be careful with what I get, cause I don't want it to take away from the dress.  I'm looking at pearl necklaces that are simple, and I found a few that I like, but a lot of them have white pearls, and I'm thinking that ivory pearls would be better since the dress is in ivory.  I will have to look again at the dress next time I'm at my FMIL house.  My other option is to start talking to my mom and his mom about maybe borrowing something for the wedding.  I would actually love to wear a necklace that my FI gave to me a while ago, but it sits too low, and I don't want anything dangeling cause I think it would look weird with my dress.  What are you all doing?

Re: Jewelry...

  • I have yet to find my jewelry.  I thought I found what I wanted on the Macy's website.  I was able to see them in person at a store and they were soooooo tiny.  Totally didn't look like they did online.

I'm thinking I only need earrings and a bracelet.  If I include a necklace it should be something simple since the rest of my dress has a lot of beading and so does my veil.

I'm still on the hunt for a headband as well.  I keep finding ones I like but I'm not willing to spend $200 bucks on it.  And the less expensive ones tend to look it.  So frustrating.  I have to look on Etsy again.  I'm sure they have something.

  • A friend of mine is letting me borrow some very nice pieces from a collection she inherited. My dress is strapless with a sweetheart neckline, the bodice is lace and minimal beading. So I'm probably going to go with one of her silver and amethyst necklace and earring sets. They're all really pretty and aren't super long so I think it will work out great!
  • I have been looking online for jewelry. I have actually found some really nice looking sets on amazon( I love amazon). It stemmed from me looking for a fancy hair comb. They aren't very expensive either.
  • I am wearing diamond jewelry that my FI has given me over the years. I like the jewelry I have so I figured I would wear that instead of searching for something else just to have new jewelry for the wedding.

  • @tammym1001 I would have no problem wearing something I already have, if what I have actually went with my dress.  Maybe I'll look through what I have again and see if anything pops.  I know it will all work out, it just seems like a simple thing and it isn't!

  • Have you guys heard of a store called Charming Charlie? They have super-cute and inexpensive fashion jewelry and store is arranged by colors, which makes it so easy to find exactly what you're looking for. I'm planning on going with some tear-drop shaped earrings and a sparkly cuff-type bracelet. I'm foregoing a necklace and I think it would take away from the dress.

  • Oooh we have a Charming Charlie here in town.  I didn't even think to look there.  I will have to stop by there soon.

  • I'm going to get some simple jewelry from Walmart's $5 section haha :). I rarely wear jewelry except my engagement ring and I've seen some pretty spectacular looking costume jewelry that I certainly can't tell that it is from Walmart. And no one would really go up to the bride and ask, "Are those REAL?"

  • I wasn't planning on wearing a necklace, although I always feel naked without one lol. I did find pair of earrings through Groupon awhile back ha almost match the design of my engagement ring so I got them. I also got a hair comb on ebay that I really loved the design and sparkle of. Haven't decided on a bracelet yet...there's one from David Tutera's line that I love (and again it is similar to my ring) but I don't want to spend that much on it (http://www.davidtuteraembellish.com/jewelry/bracelets/elizabeth-bracelet.html) but I might go simpler (and cheap) with something like this http://www.davidtuteraembellish.com/jewelry/bracelets/savannah-bracelet.html

  • @ArtTeacher23 gahhhh that Elizabeth bracelet is beautiful. i love it.  i like the other one too, but that one is like... boom.

when it comes to price on anything related to the wedding, i'm always on the fence between "I'm only getting married once" and "will anyone notice how awesome this is besides me?"
  • @ohxhi I know, I feel the same way. I just saw a nice bracelet on Groupon that was similar to that one but for $40 (but still did not have that "boom" effect I like lol) and considered getting it...but I'm thinking I might drop some hints at hubby-to-be that the Elizabeth bracelet would make a lovely wedding day gift lol

This is sooo me!  I don't want to go overboard on these things.  A lot of my friends have never worn the jewelery again.  Same goes for a head band.  Loved one at the bridal store till I saw the price tag of $265 bucks!  I can't justify spending that much on a headband I'll wear once.  Not to mention I always buy headbands and after a short while they start to make my head hurt so who knows if I would last with it on all day.

  • I bought a hair comb as part of my jewelry off of amazon. It was only 14 bucks after shipping. I think Ill end up buying my earings and necklace from amazon or ebay also. They are not expensive and still very nice looking. I look at it like this, I may only wear it this one day, but I will be able to pass it on to one of children of my grandchildren some day.
  • @dluberts that's a really helpful way to justify a splurge item here and there.  I love the idea of passing things down.  I've already incorporated a few things from my grandparents who've passed away into my wedding- I hope my grandchildren will want to do that too.

I bought a lot of my stuff from Etsy, including the earrings, which were twenty some dollars.  I'm still on the hunt for a bracelet (currently crushing on @ArtTeacher23's pick- which would make an excellent wedding day present... I like your thinking).
  • Everyone has such great ideas!  I still feel so lost!  I don't know what to wear or do!  I'm pretty sure that a bracelet would look lovely with my dress, but I'm not a big bracelet person.  I love earrings, but again, I'm not sure what to wear.  And as much as I love necklaces, I don't know that one would look great with my dress.  Ugh I wish my FI could see my dress, he has a great eye for this kind of thing.  I know it will all work out and everything will be lovely, but ugh I just don't know.

  • 1. Try Tradesy for wedding jewelry that isn't outrageous. You can sell it later, too, on the same site.

    2. You mentioned the necklace your FI gave you, but it's too long...can you put it on a shorter chain? Shorten the necklace for the day with an adjuster?

    3. Find a dress with a neckline similar to your wedding dress, say it's for something else, and ask your FI what jewelry he would suggest.

    Good Luck!

  • Oh wow I haven't even thought of jewelry...eek! Pearls sound pretty good, I have a pair already but it's not "chunky" enough nor do I have matching earrings. I love dangly ones!
  • So, update on my jewelry situation.  While FI was in the hospital, he bought me a gorgeous real pearl necklace, and amazingly they are ivory pearls which will be perfect for the dress!!!  It is just a basic strand that doesn't have any embellishments or anything, which is exactly what I needed.  I'm now looking at pearl drop earrings on etsy and have found quite a few that I like.

  • So I'm home sick, and what's better than trying to get some wedding DIY done but online shopping lol! I just bought myself this bracelet on Groupon (https://www.groupon.com/deals/gg-14-cttw-diamond-bangle-bracelet) It was too pretty and for only $30 I couldn't pass it up, so I'll most likely wear this on the wedding day.

  • I bought myself some pearls, too! I posted these in the Etsy thread earlier, but here they are again :)

They're natural Keshi pearls, which are freshwater pearls with a bit of an irregular shape and texture to them.
