Wednesday Accountability

I desperately need to get back on track!

B: Egg white, cheddar, avocado on a skinny bagel, hazelnut coffee with splenda and whole milk
S: Small fruit cup
L: Chicken noodle soup, cheddar with crackers, grapes
D: Grilled chicken breast, kale chips, mashed potatoes

Re: Wednesday Accountability

  • This is something I may start doing.  FI and I are going to start eating healthier once the holidays are over.  I plan on starting weight watchers

To the main reason I commited on this.  How do you make your kale chips.? The past couple times I've made them they were either way to salty or burnt or something.

  • I think I need to join this

In my 'grab' bag I have:
    Granola bar
    Grapes
    Light String Cheese
    Light Chicken & Dumpling Soup
Extra veggies to add to soup
    100 calorie cookie pack
    Carrots

It's also 'free fruit Wednesday' at work - so I'll probably grab a banana and an apple.

Dinner tonight will be kielbasa w/penne, spinach & chickpeas

Hoping to make it to the gym tonight too!!

  • @jaydee4219 - Weight Watchers is great! I lost 26 lbs the first time I did it and for the first time in my life, I learned what a real serving size is which is invaluable.

If you're looking for delicious but healthy recipes, a ton of us swear by www.SkinnyTaste.com. She includes Weight Watchers points and nutrition facts on all of her recipes.

I've only tried kale chips once before and they burnt (H somehow still ate them). This will be my 2nd attempt and I'm hoping it goes better. I've figured out that my oven runs hotter than it should so that should help! I'm going to use THIS recipe.

  • B:  eggs, bacon, banana-cakes, coffee with a couple drops of cream
L:  chicken and broccoli stir fry with a tiny bit of brown rice medley, pineapple and mango
    S:  navel orange and cashews
D:  this YUMMY recipe (LINK) for roasted chicken thighs over root veggies (I use butternut squash, sweet potatoes, onion, red potatoes), roasted green beans

    E:
    warm-up: 50 JJ, 25 moving chair squats, 25 modified push-ups
    work-out:
    25 burpees, 5 KB swings
    20 burpees, 10 KB swings
    15 burpees, 15 KB swings
    10 burpees, 20 KB swings

  • @jaydee4219 - If you wanted to start something now, you could try My Fitness Pal.  It's a free app/website where you can track your food and exercise and weight.  It goes by calories and not points like Weight Watchers does.  I'm HORRIBLE at tracking which paired with my sweet tooth has been a huge downfall for me.

My story:  I'd like to lose around 60lbs - I need to get healthy for many reason (the main being I just feel like crap right now).  When I was in college/high school I never needed to really work out and I walked just about everywhere.  After I graduated college, I moved to a larger city and didn't feel comfortable walking alone and I made a ton of bad food choices.  My bad food choice lifestyle continued and I gained and gained.  I've tried many 'diets' and 'lifestyle' changes, but they haven't worked out for me.

In 2012 - I rode a century on my bike (even being overweight) I did my 100 miles in 8 hours, not the time I wanted but I completed it which was awesome.  In 2013 I signed up for the Bike MS: Pedal to the Point and only did 30 miles and it kicked my butt, funny what a year can do for becoming even more unhealthy!  In 2014 my goal is to do AT LEAST 75 miles of the Bike MS: Pedal to the Point, FI said he'd do the ride with me and he'd like to do either the 150 or 175mi routes.

I know it's going to be a long journey for me - one day at a time though.

  • @hstanek - I have tried My Fitness Pal I actually have it downloaded on my phone and tried it but after a couple days I just stop.  It's hard when I don't have anyone there to be accountable to so I quit after a while. I've tried to have my FI be that person for me but as much as I want him to be a hardass and tell me what I need to hear he won't.  He doesn't want to hurt my feelings or make me feel bad about myself or anything like that which I respect but I just need that person.  It would benefit me so much more to have someone on me if I don't log something.

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you.  College was fine but after that it was just bad and it doesn't help my current job is sitting at a desk for 8 hours.  I've always thought I would enjoy biking so much  more then running/jogging.  It's something that FI has said he would be interested in doing as well so that may be something we take up soon. Thank you so much for all the advice though. I welcome it greatly and truly appreciate any help/encouragement I can get.

  • @Swazzle - I don't know how much a of a fan of Kale you are but I tried THIS recipe yesterday and it was great.  I threw in some balsamic in the dressing and extra pine nuts in the salad.. there's no such thing as too many pine nuts IMO.

  • @cu97tiger - I didn't hear you say that!  how was your run?  it's about to be epic-ly cold here (like lows near 0 deg F) so there shall be NO outdoor activities for me!
  • @jaydee4219 - That looks so delicious! I don't have pine nuts at home but I do have walnuts. Maybe I'll make that recipe but with walnuts and craisins! The dressing sounds really good.

  • @Swazzle - have you tried dried tart cherries in place of dried cranberries?  OMG.  SO GOOD.  SO GOOD!!!
  • @CocoBellaF - NO but they sound amazing! I have dried cranberries leftover from the dish I made for Thanksgiving but I'll have to look for those dried cherries next time I go food shopping!

  • I get them in the bulk section at Sprout's.  they are sooooo yummy.  they make a great snack with trail mix, too.
  • @cocobellaf - my run was great, actually! I miss running, but I've been so stressed with Toby and we had some really cold temps (ok, not as cold as YOU'RE going to have, but cold for me), so my motivation was lacking. I'm ready to get back to it.

  • @buddysmom80- You've probably heard a lot of different opinions about it but I really enjoy it and so does H.

At first I thought it was going to be a bunch of weight lifting macho people (which there are some) but to my surprise it's very even toned. It's not as much cardio as what I was used to but it has incorporated a lot more strength components into my workouts as well as plyo.

I'd give it a try, they do this workout called Baseline which is for first time members. You would do a basic workout that gives you a hint of what their workouts are like and you decide from there if you like it. H and I go about 3-4 times a week.

I've never seen big changes in my appearance until CrossFit honestly. I used to do competitive cheerleading and gymnastics and this is bringing back the body I used to have then. I've always tried to stay as healthy as I can but once I started doing this, I've noticed more muscle tone, and I'm leaner than I was two months ago. I really like it, let me know how you like it if you give it a try.
