WR Thoughts/opinions

I wanted to get your opinions. I like the idea but I worry about it being to cheesy. When FI I had our engagement shots done with did a few pictures with a sign we got saying "Every love story is great but ours is my favorite" Our save the dates say "Happily ever after" and hopefully our invitiations will too.

So FI & I have been toying around with this idea but I also don't want want to turn this wedding into a themed child's birthday party.  We thought about naming each table after a great love movie ( The Princess Bride, Casablanca, Pride and Prejudice were a few that came to mind) and having something from the movie on each table in addition to the floral centerpiece.  LIke for casablanca have a mini eiffel tower on the table, some of the movies would be harder to come up with something than others.  We also wanted to have on our gift table for any cards a mailbox like the one Carl & Ellie make from up with our names and hand print painted on. I also thought if the additional centerpiece item was too much to add a framed quote from the movie.

I won't take offense because I can see where it might be cute and add something to the wedding but I can also see where it might be too much of a themed obnoxious idea. If you like the idea any movie and centerpiece suggestions?

  • @southernpeach89 's RD had a book theme sort of. Everyone's escort card was printed on one of those old cards you would use when you check out a book...you know the ones that would have the book title and author and then you'd get the due date stamped on it? So basically we had to pull our escort card out of an alphabatized file and at the top of each card was a book that was either about love or had love or romance in the title. So for me and BF, we were Chapter 2 (Table 2) - Guess How Much I love You by Sam McBratney. The escort card table was also book-themed. It was covered in in stacks of old books, had an old typewriter on it, things like that. It was really adorable. However, that was as far as that theme extended. Each table was decorated in a "rustic" type theme with a burlap tablecloth with a green tablecloth overlay, green/burlap napkins, wildflour type centerpieces, gold chargers and they had black lanterns hanging from the ceiling rather than white candelabra.

I think you could pull off something like that with your "happily ever after" sort of theme. Just name your tables after the movies you like and maybe design your escort cards around the idea and your escort card table as well but go with the same/similar centerpieces just to keep your life a little more simple. I don't recall anything from our table having anything actually related to the book on it...it was just marked with our "chapter" number. I think your framed quote idea is maybe a little easier to pull off and you could always turn the quotes into some sort of collage or word art or something later. As a wedding gift, someone gave my sister a clear glass ornament filled with curled strips of her invitation and then tied with a bow in navy. It looked really pretty!

  • As long as you don't overdo it or make the tables gaudy, I think it could be adorable! Little touches are great ideas to add in the theme, just don't go overboard and guests won't be reminded of a little kid's party.

I love this idea! I'm going to have to save this idea for the next wedding we go to!
  • @allusive007 -I loved that gift! It's very sentimental and I saw it on Pinterest which made me want to create it for myself so it made me happy someone did that for me.

My mom did this for us for our first Christmas. I loved it so very very much.

@peaseblossom55 - I kind of agree with Allusive. I like the idea of the trinket, but think it might start look kitchy. What if you had one frame with the table name and one frame with the picture of the trinket? You could use photoshop to fade it/put it in black and white/whatever to have it better fit your colors. Under the picture of the trinket, you could put the quote. We named our tables after cities we have visited together, and put pictures of us in that city around the table. (We didn't really have a 'theme' ... kind of 'eat, drink and be married' so the pictures were held up by wine corks and the vases in the center of the table were painted wine bottles).

    Still here and still fabulous!

  • Thanks for the feedback so far. I really don't want it to come off as kitchsy or too tacky. I like the idea of understated and simple.   Some of the movies we had come up with we were having a hard time coming up with a item for the table so I may lean more towards frames with quotes of the movie...

oh frames spray painted in gold......

@lmhollister I love the idea that someone gave her an ornament with their wedding invitation like that such a cute idea!!!

  • I also like the idea of the movies for tables, but the trinket might be taking it a bit far in my opinion.

  • Our table "numbers" will be the names of restaurants/bars from our favorite TV shows (written in the fonts that are used for the TV titles). We have several guests who are already fighting over who gets to sit at Central Perk, and who gets to sit at JJ's Diner.

I'm cool if it's tacky. I hopefully only get one wedding, and this sounds like fun to me!

  • I also worry if I add something in addition to the floral centerpieces and votives that the table would just look too busy.

  • I love movies, and quotes, so I'm all for this idea, however you do it :)

    @phira love your idea

I love you ladies so hard.

My partner wants each table sign to have a quote from the show about love, and the one he picked for Friends is Phoebe's whole spiel about lobsters. I LOVE Friends; I rewatch the whole show once or twice a year. I am currently at the beginning of season 7.

Although we might scrap the quotes. Good luck finding a romantic quote from Supernatural.

  • I really like the idea as long as it is simple and understated. I think the PPs have given you some really great ideas on how to do it so it doesn't come off as cheesy! I do think that if you choose to do this you should still include numbers with the table just because that makes it easier for you guests to find the tables.

Exactly what Allusive said. Just add the framed quote and table name next to your floral centerpiece.
Also I love Casablanca! Now I have As Time Goes By playing.

  • @imhollister, I was with FI's parents and just sitting on the couch crying my eyes out from that movie. I can't get through like two scenes without a new tissue.
