Groom in black or white?

I've been growing more fond of the idea of my FI wearing Ivory on our wedding day and having his groomsmen wear black.

do you think Grooms should stick to the Black tux and leave the bride in the white or ivory?

Re: Groom in black or white?

  • It is up to him what he wears.  However, I prefer black tuxes.

  • I'm not really a fan of white suits or tuxes. I'd go with black.

  • What does he want to wear? That's what he should wear.

FTR - I think black tuxes are classic and white tuxes are cheesy. They kind of remind me of the 80s and cocky guys a high school prom. Not in a mean way, but that's just what pops into my head.

  • Let him wear what he wants, but I personally do not care for the look of white tuxes and suits. What southern belle said... They're kinda cheesy.
  • Let him decide what he wants to wear. Personally, I hate colored tuxes. Black is classic and won't look out of style in 20 years.
  • FI and I went together and he tried on the different tuxes. White and black. He asked me what he looked really good in and it was a black tuxedo. =) Very sexy, I loved it!!!

So go with what is comfortable for him and if he asks tell him what looks best on him.

I've seen weddings at my work and I've only see white tuxedos look good on really dark skinned men. That is just my opinion. The colored (blue, purple, etc.) tuxedos just remind me of prom and of those Halloween costumes of pimps.

  • Let him decide.  Personally, I am not a fan of white and much prefer black, charcoal or grey.
  • IMO it depends on the guy's complection.
Pale-skinned/blonde guys tend to look washed off in white/ivory tuxes.
Tanned people/brunettes/darker-complection guys can look stunning in white/ivory tuxes.

  • Eeek, I honestly think that wouldn't look very nice and you'll regret it in 10 years.
  • Our plan is for him to wear an ivory tux with gold vest & tie so that he will match my dress which is ivory with gold beading. However, he is letting me go with them to the fitting because he wants to know what I think about how he looks in it. If it doesn't look good, he will wear a black tux with the gold vest & tie. The best men will wear black tuxes with a plum vest & tie.....they will match the bridesmaid/MOH dresses.
  • I really hope he ends up in a black tux. I'm not liking the visual.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • As others said, let him try everything on and see what he thinks. I personally only like a groom in white if he's wearing something linen and fabulous at a more casual ceremony.

  • Let him pick

Personally it has to be Black

(obviously if he is wearing a more relaxed/casual suit it can be nude or whatever but not white never  white)

We advise brides all the time as to what is most flattering with skin tone. I agree, it's the same with tuxes. Men with darker skin tones look so much better in white/ivory than very pale men will.
