MOH ordering dress too small ON PURPOSE!

Hey ladies so..... my MOH informed me she is ordering her dress 2 sizes too small to motivate her to lose weight!!!! Not only is this crazy but WHAT DO WE DO IF SHE DOESN'T LOSE THE WEIGHT?! what do I do????

Re: MOH ordering dress too small ON PURPOSE!

  • It's actually her problem. If it's too small she is going to have to order another one. I might mention to her that the latest date she could order a dress in a different size is x date, and that if it doesn't look like this one will fit she should look into swapping out the dress. If a dress swap out isn't possible, you may mention to her that it would be best to get the size that looks great on her now, and then you'll celebrate with her if she needs to get it taken in after she loses the weight.
  • You don't do anything. It is her dress, her money and her (dumb) choice. If it comes in too small then it is her issue to fix, not yours.

  • Agree with PPs.  There really isn't anything you can do about this.  If she insists on making a dumb choice, there really isn't anything you can do to stop her.  If this comes up in conversation on its own (i.e. you haven't gone out of your way to work it into a conversation), you can maybe bring up how it's much easier to take a dress in than let it out, that sometimes when you lose weight you don't lose it evenly (your bottom may drop two sizes, but your top may stay the same or vice versa), etc.  Otherwise, just let it go.  If it doesn't fit, it will be her problem to solve.  Also, if she hasn't actually ordered yet, there's a good chance the bridal salon may try to talk her out of it.  I imagine they see this plan fail frequently and have dealt with enough panicked brides/bridesmaids to be able to share some horror stories that may knock some sense into your friend.
Don't worry guys, I have the Wedding Police AND the Whambulance on speed dial!
  • Yep. Do nothing. This is her dumbass problem, not yours.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • The seamstresses will need to order more fabric if the dress doesn't fit her, and she'll have to pay through the nose for the alterations and extra fabric.

I don't get why you're stressing yourself out about this, though.

  • Don't sweat it.  It's her problem and she'll have to pay for last-minute alterations if the dress doesn't fit on time.  If she's not willing to do that, then that's her PA way of stepping down as your MOH.  It sucks, but there really isn't anything you can about it other than not stressing yourself out over it.
  • Panels. She will need panels if she doesn't lose the weight. She will have to pay for extra fabric and the ridiculous cost of getting panels sewn into her dress.

Why can't she put a sticky note on her fridge and pantry door that says "SIZE 6" or whatever to motivate her? That's a lot less risky than setting herself up for expensive alterations. Like PPs said - her stupid choice.

  • Honestly it is her choice.  If she brings it up to you again you can mention how difficult and expensive adding fabric to dress is versus how easy it is to take it in, but I wouldn't push it...at the end of the day its her problem not yours.
  • Don't do anything, if her stupid decision ends up costing her a ton of money, then that's her problem, not yours.  You have enough on your plate, don't let her weight loss goals or dress fit be your problem.
