Tell Us Something Interesting About Yourself:  I love to travel and experience new cultures. I've been to 11 countries, 9 of them during this year alone due to some really awesome opportunities.

Re: Another newbie post!

  • 9 countries in one year?! That's incredible!!! What has been your favorite?
  • Welcome! What's your favorite winter activity?
  • @ashleyosheab Probably Slovenia. I traveled all up the coast of the Adriatic Sea, so the whole area was just gorgeous. I also lived in Taiwan for a month this Summer teaching English and that was the experience of a lifetime!

@KeptinStitches It's funny that you ask that, because there is a blizzard going on in Upper Michigan right now, so I'm still hating the snow from the walk home! I have a love/hate relationship with winter haha. But I like ice skating and I have a reliable source that told me that my SO's parents are getting me an ice fishing pole for Christmas :)
  • @anna2075 Woo Michiganders!! :)

    What's your favorite dessert?
  • @Riss2893 Cheesecake, especially with any kind of fruit! It's the best kind of guilty pleasure.

And even though I don't go to State, I'm not a U of M fan at all. So I think we have potential for a great friendship here!

  • @Suzie211 isn't that kind of a personal question?

Welcome!  I also would love to hear more about the places you have traveled.

  • @doubleSS07 Ha! It could be, but in this case it's a yuper thing.

  • I totally just googled Yuper.  Good that it's a "thing" or I would have needed to see evidence that you eat pasties!

    Daisypath Anniversary tickers
  • Ha. Did yuper reference MI and their obsession with meat filled pastries?

I'll try to get through all of the questions!

@Amapola - I love rabbits! I don't watch the Walking Dead, or much TV for that matter. My best quality is probably the fact that I tend to be a good listener and communicator, at least I'd like to think I am!

@cu97tiger I'm only applying to the same university that I already attend right now. I'm going for Writing Program (specifically learning center) Administration and Technical Communications. I love wine, especially a good Zinfandel or Pinot Noir. I'm not a fan of sweet or most whites.

Some of my travel stories get pretty crazy. I went on a study abroad traveling up the Adriatic (Albania, Bosnia, Croatia, Montenegro, Slovenia, and Italy). That was fabulous and we got to go to all sorts of touristy places and nice restaurants and cultural events.

Then, I found out about this opportunity to teach English in Taiwan (all expenses paid) and I applied even though it was super short notice. I thought that I was being spontaneous and adventurous and free-spirited, but it ended up being a little bit of a nightmare. It turns out I wasn't teaching directly at a University like I was told I was going to be, but instead at this really extreme religious camp that was being hosted on campus. Although we didn't perform them, there were some exorcisms and faith healings and none of the kids who had signed up for the camp knew that it was religiously-based. The two other girls and I weren't given a Chinese guide (I speak none) and we were staying in a pretty bad city, so we were locked in our living accommodations each night for "safety." Eventually, we were able to connect to the internet and contact our home university. There was some severe mishandling of the situation on the end of both universities plus a super typhoon (like a hurricane) and we ended up having to stay in Taiwan for the remainder of the trip, even though it ended up that we were there illegally because no one in Taiwan bothered to get us the correct visas! But we removed from the camp and I actually got to lead my own classroom of students and that was a great learning experience. But I got out unscathed and the worst thing that happened was I accidentally ate some food that I normally would not have chosen to eat (laxative tea/coagulated cow's blood!) I just feel so bad for my SO. I think he was absolutely beside himself the entire time I was gone. I haven't gone on a trip since and I don't think he wants me to leave the country without him ever again!

@suzie211 I ate one last week! Also, glad we cleared the confusion up for those that didn't know what they were haha. I think that we usually spell it "Yooper" though.

  • My spelling is a little off! It's been over a decade since I lived in MI , so I'm a little rusty:)
