I Need a Xanax to Deal with Finding My Dress

I'm sure I'm not the first to feel this way, but I am so anxious about finding a dress. I've only had one appointment at David's Bridal, which was a disaster due to the horrible consultant. I feel like it got me nowhere!

It's not that I can't afford a dress, it's that I can't make myself fork over more than a certain amount for a dress I'll wear once. I know it's possible to find something I love in my budget, but that doesn't mean it's easy.

There's a bridal salon nearby having a huge sample sale and they have 6-8 dresses in my size range that are in my budget (on sale). I'm making an appointment, so let's hope that one the dresses they still have on sale is The One when I get there.

While I'm not opposed to strapless, I'd love to find a quarter-sleeve A-line. Cross those fingers for me, will ya Knotties?

  • You know. You would always pick a dress you love that's "strapless" and had the sleeves added to it!

I hear you. I have been shopping 11 times. No one understands that I don't like dresses, I don't like making decisions, I don't live being the center of attention and I don't like shopping. Therefore shopping for and making a decision on a dress that will make me the center of attention makes me want to cry.

    Good luck to you! :)

  • Glad I'm not the only one! I have been to two salons, the first was a horrible experience. I booked an appointment and they only had 1 person working, who ignored me. She wouldn't tell me the names of the designers or style numbers. She kept saying if this other girl liked the dress, she couldn't order it for me.

The second place was awesome but I couldn't find one that I liked in person and in pictures. They gave me designers, style numbers and their price. If I find the same dress cheaper, they will meet or beat that price.

I hope you have better luck than me. I agree that if you find a strapless, see about adding sleeves.

This. I look ridiculous in strapless dresses, and as soon as I told the woman at the first salon, she pulled out a whole box full of sample straps and sleeves that they can add on to any strapless dress - this really increases your options! Just make sure to ask :)

Definitely felt the same way about my experience at David's bridal. Going to smaller salons with better consultants has made a huge difference.

I love some of the dresses available with 3/4 sleeves. GOOD LUCK!!!
  • Ugh me too. I have not even started but the thought of spending that much makes me sick. I'm afraid I will look terrible in everything. There is such a thing as too skinny and it is me
  • Good luck!

  • 1. DB is the Walmart of bridal dress shopping. I bet you'll have a better experience elsewhere.

    2. I thought I wanted straps until I tried on my strapless dress and fell in love with it. Lesson: always try things on when people suggest it!

This is a generalization that is not at all accurate. I purchased my gown from DB and had an extremely accommodating consultant who made it a very memorable and pleasant experience. In fact, it was so wonderful that I purchased the first gown I tried on.

This was me--I had tried on a bunch of dresses (including some strapless ones that I did NOT feel comfortable in at all). I even had one I really liked that I was almost ready to buy, but then I realized I didn't LOVE it. Finally, after I went to another salon and didn't like any of the sleeved dressed there, I decided I needed to try on something totally different. The first strapless dress fit better than any of the others I had tried on, but I wanted a train. The second one was perfect and I knew right away that it was mine!

    Good luck finding yours!

Same here. Back in high school for my prom I didn't think I could pull off strapless. I LOVED my prom dress.

Good luck!!! Don't worry if THE dress doesn't make you cry...not everyone has the same reaction. It could be a gut feeling, it could make you look beautiful, it could make you cry, it could just make you really happy, hell even make you feel like a princess. You'll know, so don't force it. Relax and just enjoy playing dress up.

  • I think I found my dress! Unfortunately, it's out of my budget. Other than the classified on TK & Craigslist as well as Tradesy & Preownedweddingdresses.com, does anyone have a good resource for used dresses?

eBay!!! I found several on eBay that were decently priced and some never worn. As long as you pick someone with a high rating and a return/refund policy you can find some dresses on there.

Note: I ended up purchasing my dress on Friday at a local salon. I pick it up tomorrow!
