So... how did Cleon affect your area? We got 8 inches of snow yesterday (they were calling for 2-3 inches). Then freezing rain over-night and into this morning. I've already gotten my first email from an employee saying they are working from home. Tomorrow, we're supposed to get another 1-3 inches.

I wish it had just solidly frozen over last night so I could have stayed home and gotten stuff done around the house today... Boo.

How bad did you get hit in your area?

Re: Winter Storm Cleon/Dion

  • I didn't even know it had a name! I was like.. who the hell is Cleon?

It's raining here in North Jersey. There was some snow last night but it's all washed away now.

  • Cleon is a horrible name for a storm! We didn't get anything yesterday, overnight we got some sleet/freezing rain but I made it to work fine. Now it's just raining out, it's actually pretty warm here for December!

I edited the name of the thread so that it makes more sense :) It's a horrible name!

It was fun watching some of the football games yesterday where they were getting the same snow we were.

  • It's chilly and rainy here in Georgia but having grown up in the Midwest, I feel for everyone who got hit with the snow.

Apparently the storm caused severe disruption to the package delivery industry. BF works in the corporate office for a package delivery company, and yesterday he got called in help deliver packages. He'll be working 12-14 hour shifts including Christmas Eve until late at night, so most of our Christmas plans are canceled, and he'll miss out on all of his family stuff. Also means he can't dog sit for me while I'm visiting my family, so I'll be rearranging my travel plans.

  • @cu97tiger - Did you see the Eagles game? You could barely see the players/ball on TV!

  • Our storm was a different one than you got. We did get almost 3 inches of snow though and the temps haven't been above 15 in a while now.

  • We got just under a foot.  I'm working from home, under the blankets.  Netflix may or may not be on in the background ;)
  • We got a couple inches of snow, and then a shit ton of ice on top of it. My neighbors have like 5 pine trees in their yard. Or...the HAD 5 pine trees. I think it's down to about 3.5 trees now. They lost sooooo many branches over night. You can't see their grass.

Then we lost power this morning just as I was waking up. It's not scheduled to be back on until 10/10:30 tonight.

I pregnant lady ranted on my work FB page (I work for the local gov't) because they didn't even offer liberal/unsheduled leave. Shortly after my rant, Unscheduled/Liberal leave was announced. I'm still at work. Just think of me as a modern day Robin Hood. The parking lots and crosswalks at my office were not treated, though. I ranted again. I'm expecting to see the truck over in the parking lot, shortly. You want something done? I guess send a grumpy pregnant lady to complain? I don't know.

  • Hiya! That's the storm I had early last week. We got something like 10" of snow, I can't be fussed to look up the exact number, then a really nice cold snap that won't be breaking until this weekend. Mercury temps of -20 or so, wind chills went as low as -50.
  • It's just raining here in Georgia....pretty much non-stop for the last two weeks with more rain predicted. Winter Storm Cleon can just go somewhere else! I don't even care if it's frigid out...I just want the clouds to go away. Apparently we have snow in the forecast for next week...ugh...

  • My browser isn't working well so I can't edit. Did anyone else read or watch the news stories about the massive multi car accidents on the interstates this weekend in PA and I think WI? I was listening to NPR this morning and they interviewed a guy who was involved in one of them. He made me so angry because he's like "I was on my phone and I looked up and there was just no time to react" and all I can think is you freaking dumbass...you shouldn't have been on your phone in the first place...especially in such awful weather. Stuff like that just makes me angry. I feel horrible for all the people involved in those crashes but when you find out that someone possibly could have avoided it if they had been keeping both eyes on the road then it's difficult to feel much sympathy...

  • It's raining here now (NJ) I got 2-3 inches of snow.  Now I realize how much it sucks to own a home and have a huge driveway.  It''s supposed to snow again tomorrow too.

Yep, that one and the first half of the Redskins game were fun to watch.

  • we got lots of ice and then snow.  our low temps hovered around zero during the night and maybe got up to 20 during the day.  schools cancelled Friday and today, but I'm at work.  the main roads aren't so bad, but all the rural and neighborhood and non-snow route roads are like an ice rink.

I'm not sure how much snow/ice we got.  at least 1-2" of pure ice followed by 4-6" of snow is my guess.  I am glad to be back at work, we were starting to get cabin fever!
  • Car was completely iced over this morning, but glad I stayed at FI's over the weekend because I guess up at my apartment, it's much worse. Everything was pretty much icy and wet. Managed to get to work ok, but we'll see when I decide to leave and go home because our systems are all messed up.

  • It snowed here. Nothing terribly dramatic, although Chicagoans forget how to drive when it snows. Lucky for me I just let the bus do the driving. DH and I stayed inside yesterday. I loved watching all the different football games that had snow!
  • We just had lots of crappy cold rain here in Alabama. It rained most of this weekend, and it rain ALL day yesterday and it looks like it might rain again today. It's not very cold right now, but it was very cold this weekend. It sucks when the weather goes from 70s to 30s-40s in the span of a few hours. Lets just say that I felt like this the past week, except instead of Georgia it's Alabama:

  • Sooo.... I thought the lady on the radio mispoke this morning when she was talking about winter storm Dion (instead of the Cleon I'd been hearing about for DAYSSSS). But turns out the one we got was Dion. Stupid fucking winter storm names anyway. Sheesh.

  • I got Cleon. And I firmly believe winter storms should not be named except by local newspapers. My newspaper has been naming blizzards for decades -- but only blizzards, so Cleon didn't warrant a name is this was not a blizzard.
  • Cleon/Dion. Celine Dion? Thats what I thought of when I first saw the name of the thread!  We got 4 inches of snow and some ice this morning. Nothing major. Southern Indiana got 5-6 inches of snow I think. They still cancelled everything because of the snow  o_O
