Not Engaged Yet

Howdy!

Screen Name: SarahA... something?  I have no clue and can not figure out where to find this!  What a great first impression... :)
Age: 30
Significant Other's Age: 34
What You Do: I work in administration for research at a academic hospital.
What SO Does: He works in research and new product development for a specialized technology company.
State of Relationship: Married
How Long You've Been Together: 2.5 years
How You Met: Match.com
Wedding Date (if you're engaged/married): November 2013
Real Babies: Zippo
Fur Babies: One cat, who we consider our daugher.  We are "those people."
Loves: Trashy reality TV, Dateline NBC, reading mysteries, animals, spending time with my husband and family, eating out at new restaurants
Hates: Rude people, hateful people, fruit mixed with meat, beans.
Pet Peeves: When people don't take the time to consider the other side of the story.  People who enter a store and just stop in the doorway.  Keep moving, people!
Hobbies/Activities: Cleaning, trying new recipes.  Life is very hectic right now, but I'm shopping for a new hobby.  Maybe pottery or martial arts?  Random.
Favorite Thing About Your SO:  He's hilarious, sweet, spontaneous, loving.
Least Favorite Thing About Your SO:  He has a few less than adorable habits that get under my skin.  Can jump to conclusions a bit too easily.
Describe Your Personality: Most people think I'm very sweet and proper, but I can snark better than most when I'm in a mood.  It usually throws people off guard as they get to know me.  I like to think I'm kind and would go out of my way to help others.  I'm a bit of a perfectionist.
Snark Level (1 [low snark] - 10 [high snark]): 3 to most people, 9 to the people who know me well.
I've Been On TK Since:  Oh, a while...
How You Came to Be On TK:  I went a little BSC way back before we were engaged, and I may have joined even before that.  I started visiting a lot when we were talking about getting married but just read posts and got (vicariously) talked off the crazy ledge a few times.  When we were engaged, I would visit and grew to really enjoy reading everyone's posts, and now that I'm married, I just want to chat with you people!
How I like my potatoes: all ways, but I hate sweet potatoes.
Favorite book/author:  I like Charles Finch's historical mysteries.
Tell Us Something Interesting About Yourself: Everyone in my family was born in a different country.  Although I love my husband and getting married was the best thing I ever did, I sometimes forget we're married.  To everyone who thinks getting married is this fantastic achievement, it's not.  The most important thing is a loving, stable relationship.  Focus on that, don't focus on the wedding.  That's why I like this group of ladies.  You all (well the ones who stick around) are sane, and I like that.

Re: Howdy!

  • Welcome! What's your favorite winter activity? Also, we need photos of your cat!
  • Welcome! I'm not a huge fan of sweet potatoes either but I will force myself to eat them every now and then just because I want to like them.
  • Hi! I hate sweet potatoes too! I've tried them so many different ways but I cannot stand them!

  • Sup!

Congrats on your recent wedding! :) What trashy reality TV do you like? Who is your favorite poster?
  • @TwoDimes: Oh geez, no.  Haha.  To clarify: zero children.  It's something we're thinking of, and we're lining up our timelines.  And I agree that getting married is an achievement and a big deal, but there are some people who think it will change things.  It won't.  So many people asked me how it is to be married, and I have to answer that it's exactly the same, but that we had a magical night with all the people we love.

@KeptInStitches: I didn't grow up around snow (Texas), and now live in the North East, so I'm learning to like snow.  My favorite winter activity is still a cozy night inside all wrapped in blankets.

  • @Amapola: I love the Housewives, Total Divas, Vanderpump Rules, and Catfish.  I haven't had time to watch much TV recently, so I feel so out of the loop with shows and need the new ones (hello, Bachelor!) to start.  I enjoy most of you, but first started reading when LivLeighton was the moderator and I always liked her style and what she had to say.

@bethsmiles and @southernpeach89: I wish I was as open minded as you.  I didn't like them AT ALL the first time I tried them and refuse to try them again.

  • Hi there!

What did your wedding dress look like?
How do you feel about guacamole?
    What's your favorite animal?

  • Wedding pics or it didn't happen.

Oh, and hi! Welcome! I like that we've had an influx of not just NEY people, but married and engaged people too on this board.

What brings you to posting now instead of a year ago when Liv was mod?

  • @Swazzle:  It was a very simple dress.  Simple strapless with a tulle skirt. No train.  I'm not sure if I can post pictures on here (can you see the picture of my cat?), but I'll attach a picture.

LOVE guac.  There is a mexican place just a couple doors down from our apartment, and when we get take-out from there, I just eat guacamole... with a spoon.  No chips to dilute the deliciousness, no other food.  Just guac.

Favorite animal is a cat, but I love all non-bug animals.  I don't hate bugs, I just don't really like them either.  Birds kind of weird me out just a little bit (I think it's the beak), but I can see why people like them.

  • @audrewuh: I only have a few pictures on my phone that don't have my face in them (have to leave a little mystery for our second date, er... conversation).  But I promise we got hitched and it was fabulous.  I'll share when I get more pictures.

I never posted before because I've never really posted on a message board before, but I got to know you all and I like you and hope we develop a little internet friendship :)  I've had opinions but didn't really just want to chime in without a proper introduction.  Figured now was the time to give it a shot and see if we hit it off! :)

  • Well cool :) Glad to have another voice in the mix. Stick around and post in some other threads. We hate it when someone does an intro and then disappears three weeks later.

  • @SarahA519 I love catfish!! I just recently rented the movie, it was so wierd/crazy/good. LOl What is you favorite/most memorable episode?

  • @Jstump2: They have all been memorable in one way or another.  The creepiest ones have been the one where the girl was pretending to be her boyfriend to "catfish date" another girl.  And they knew each other from the mall?  Something like that.  She came out of her apartment building and was super creepy and cocky.  Yikes!  Then there was the one where the guy got out of the car and just started clapping and said he found his father dead?  Those are the ones that stick with me.  Kind of vauge explainations but it's been a while since it's been on.  So twisted.  My husband and I just look at each other half the time with our mouths hanging open.

@audrewuh: Thanks for the invite.  Will do!  I guess I just felt like I was intruding earlier, so wanted to introduce myself.  I'm that girl that always needed to be formally invited to go out in college, so maybe it stems from that... :)

  • I can see your cat and I love her! I love fluffy cats.

Your dress is GORGEOUS! Simple, but so, so pretty.

Yay for cats! I concur with your assessment of all non-bug animals. Bugs are just... No thank you.

And I'm a guacaholic so you're in good company :)

  • Welcome @saraha519. I also like to eat guacamole with a spoon so we are now bffs.

What is your favorite alcoholic drink?

What are your favorite winter activities?

BTW your wedding dress is gorgeous!!!

  • @buddysmom80: So, last year for New Years, the H and I stayed home, watched a movie (I fell asleep at about 9:30pm), and ate 2 GIANT bowls of guac as our celebration. He ate his with chips, and I ate mine with a spoon.  BEST NEW YEARS EVER.

Favorite alcoholic drink: sangria and Angry Orchard Hard Apple Cider.  Not a huge drinker otherwise, but those are my weaknesses. Mimosas with grapefruit juice are fun too.

Favorite winter activity is staying inside.  I didn't grow up around snow so I don't know how to ski or anything.  Sledding could be fun!

Thanks, everyone, for the warm welcome.  I plan to stick around, and hope to get to know you all better!

  • @saraha519 that's a New Year's Eve I could get behind! BF and I go to Mexico every year in June and the resort we stay at has the best guac. I literally eat two bowls of it for lunch every day. I love sangria too, so you're okay in my book. Please stick around!

  • Welcome! Thanks for coming. It's nice to have another married lady in the mix to bounce questions off of. (Currently engaged.) Where in the north east are you now? Did you like the snow yesterday?

  • @brisox81: Thanks!  I'll stick around :)  I like you too!

@Kait: Happy to chime in as an old married lady, although I'm far from an expert!  (So, so far.)  I live in a subburb outside Boston.  Moved up for school and never left.  I work in the city, so I don't see us moving too far out of the commuting zone anytime soon.  My husband works about 20 minutes in the other direction from where we live, so we love it!  The snow yesterday was fine.  Pretty.  That's the kind of snow I like.  Or a blizzard where everyone stays home.  Much more snow than yesterday, where you also have to get to and from work, is the absolute worst.  I know there are a few Boston ladies around here.  Do you live in the northeast too?

  • @SarahA519, I'm in central CT area. Hartford/New Haven. I was glad the roads weren't bad yesterday, I still had to go into work.
