David's Bridal change:(

I stopped in a DB today to see if I could try on a dress I've had my eye on and they only had sizes 4 & 6.  Since last time I was in, there was a size 14 (they were really busy that day & I didn't have an appointment), I thought I'd ask if they'd get in a larger size again.  The girl told me that they are switching over how they do most of their dresses & will only be carrying sample sizes 2 & 12:(  I probably need more like an 18....a 12 is useless to me:( She said they'll have the "women's section" (aka plus size) still, but that is different dresses and the majority of their dresses will only be on the racks in 2 & 12 because they're going more to measuring/ordering.  
Does anyone know if this is all of their locations?  I'm assuming it is and let the girl know that this was really disappointing and if they wanted to do that, they should maybe have gone with 4/14s or something to be closer to the upper end of the sizes for the real world (I really did say it nice, I know it's not her "fault").
Just thought I'd share my experience and see if anyone knows if it's worth bothering with a different location.

    Samples suck in general. I didn't shop at DB but my store was the opposite end. I wear a 0 jeans and there wasn't one dress that didn't hang like crazy. Some people would roll their eyes at this 'problem' but it still a problem even for petite people.

    When I went to David's Bridal (November 30th so it was pretty recent), they had a few of each dress on the rack that I saw.  Although I wear size 6 in jeans, the consultant did bring me a few size 12's to try on.  I thought it was just because she thought the styles were small and my chest is 34DD, but maybe the new switch is actually why??  She didn't mention anything to me about them switching over, but then again she didn't really help us at all!  She never zipped a single dress, nor did she say more than 20 words to us the entire time we were there.  Other dresses I looked at they had in 4, 6, 8, 10 and so on...so I'm not really sure (maybe that was the last of their inventory).  I'm just glad that the dress my sister in law selected for me, and that I had ultimately purchased, they had in several sizes so I could find the right one for me!  At first, my SIL brought me the 6, which was fine on my hips, but I couldn't get it zipped at the top.  I had to buy the 10 and can get the waist altered if need be.  That really sucks if they are completely switching their in store sizes!  They also completely changed how they run appointments...my experience was way different from my MOH's (she is also getting married next year) and also from my SIL's (who was married last year), even though we went to the same location.

    i stayed away from davids you can find a really great gown at a local bridal shop. you can find gowns for the same price ranges at davids and in larger sizes. i went to a shop that specializes in plus she had so many gowns for me to try on in 22s 24s 26s 28s 30s im a street size 20/22 and most salons that are small have a section of discontinued gowns that you can purchase the same day and take home and at discounts

    I get so mad. I have a hard time finding clothes that are age appropriate since I fit in juniors clothes, but not most adult clothing or I have to order online. I hate that people make me feel like it's not an issue for petites, that only plus-size people can complain about it.

    I am going to David's for my fitting in a few days so I might ask.  If it's true that really sucks, because I am a 16 and they tried to put me into a 12 just so I could see and it didn't work at all.  I would call some of the stores close to you to find out for sure sometimes get lost in the translation.

    The problem I have is usually the clothing style in the petites isn't really my style. This is just my opinion, but the clothing in petites (when I have gone shopping) at certain stores look like something that is aimed for older women. Not 30 or younger. I get teased because I go into the juniors section because they do have cute clothes, but everyone tells me I need to "grow up".

    My other problem is I am short. Short stomach but a big bust (thanks mom lol) and nothing really fits me properly. I go with the proper size to fit my bust, tops look baggy on me. I wear it to fit my stomach/waist size the tops are tight on my bust so some have said I look inappropriate. I can't win lol

    I work at DB. The entire company is basically going through an overhaul in the next two years to make it more boutique and less "Walmartish." A lot of things are already changing. This includes taking a lot off the floor and switching to ordering dresses. This is due in part to customers complaining about things having to be bought off the rack instead of ordering brand new. I haven't heard that it will only be 2 and 12, but I'm sure it will be like one small size, one medium size and one large size. As for the women's section being different, it's already like that anyway.

    @terrylovesroy Don't you have 4 - 9 dresses to deal with already? I don't think you need to worry about whether they'll have a sample that fits you.

    We put you in the 12 and clip it up tight. Then we measure you to get you the right size. And it's ridiculous that there should be a sample of every single size in every single dress in store. Most bridal salons only have one or two samples. DB has way more than that, but even now they don't have EVERY single size of every single dress. That's crazy. First of all it takes up an insane amount of space, second of all it wastes so much money to have all of those samples nobody buys that you then have to deal with consigning, etc.

    @thelastdreamer I have a question for you since you work at DB.  When I tried on dresses, they had my size in the store (but the hook at the top of the zipper was missing...and I wouldn't want to buy one right of the rack anyway), but I still ordered my gown.  This means I do get a brand new one, right?  I mean, I asked to have it shipped to me since I went shopping while back home, but they said I get an e-mail when it gets there first before it would be shipped, which I assumed meant I get a new one that goes to them first and then they turn around send it to me..?  I just want to make sure I'm not getting a dress that has been tried on before!

    It's a sliding scale. So the more you bring in, the higher your commission percentage. If someone is only making 1% they probably aren't doing a very good job. But that's actually getting changed with the overhaul too - it's changing to a higher hourly wage instead with an occasional bonus based on sales. At least that's what I've heard.

    Yeah all shipping to homes the individuals stores do. So like the store orders your dress, the dress is shipped from a warehouse to the store, then the store handles shipping it to you. As for if your dress will be brand spanking new, I'd assume so. Some dresses are cut to order (meaning they are literally made just when they're ordered) and others are kept in the warehouse, so they may have been there but they're still new ... if you have a good store, they are supposed to inspect all the merchandise when it's shipped from the warehouse to make sure it's perfect. I'm sure it'll be fine.
