Bad timing for a proposal

DH and I are at a hockey game. Dude proposes to GF on the Jumbotron...



...just as a fan-favourite player gets called for a penalty.


So he asks, Jumbotron shows him getting down on one knee, and the whole arena boos loudly.

Poor girl looked like she was gonna cry.

    It'll suck tonight, but be a great story to tell! I think that kind of proposal is so overdone anyway. What ever just happened to asking? I do not understand people who make it such a huge deal.

    I hate public proposals, and sports proposals.  I love UFC, but if my FI had proposed to me while we were at a pay per view event I would have been pissed.  But to each their own, I guess.

    Good question, and I don't know. It was my first "real" hockey game (minor league team), so everything was new to me. But they basically rushed the proposal off the Jumbotron to do the replay of the fight. 

    I really hope that, in a few years, they can laugh about this.

    I'm obsessed with hockey and go to NHL games pretty regularly... maybe minor leagues aren't bound to the 'let's pay attention to the game, not the stands' rule.
