moving

My H is finishing up his phd program applications and we'll know by march where he gets in and where we'll be moving to. His top three choices right now are Tucson, Az , Lawrence, Ks and Rochester, Ny. I have been trying to get as much info about these places as possible so that we can make the most educated choice when the decisions from schools start rolling in. We cant exactly afford to visit every place unless they offer to fly him out to talk to him (we are keeping our fingers crossed that this will happen, at least to the schools he is most interested in) and even if that does happen it would just be him going. So if you currently live or have ever lived in these areas, tell me about them. What you like, didnt like, what there is to do there, cost of living, whatever you can think of. The more the better. And thank you in advance!

Re: moving

  • So clearly I'm bored and procrastinating on writing papers and making cake pops. I don't live in any of the above, but I poked around and found this cool little calculator so you can at least get an idea on cost of living. http://money.cnn.com/calculator/pf/cost-of-living/

It looks like housing is cheapest in Tuscon and highest in Rochester.

  • Yep been there and thats what I came up with too. Im really voting for Tucson because I have family in Phoenix and I just really like Az in general, but also because of the cost of living in the area is alot cheaper than anywhere else we looked at. Thanks for looking that up though. :)
  • Not sure if you found this site also http://www.bestplaces.net/city/new_york/rochester it shows more than just cost of living.

  • No advice re: the three places you mentioned but just wanted to say good luck! We had a similar scenario with FI's LL.M program.... our options were CO, DC or Florida (We ended up in DC; even though it was more expensive it was the highest ranked program).  It was such an exciting/nervous time, but an adventure :) Best of luck!

  • @afox007 thanks for the link, very helpful
@tmclawchick I'm super excited for the move! Now we can get away from H's crazy family, and since H will be pulling in alot more money I can finally go back to school and only work part time again. Yay! Just can't wait to find out where were going.
  • No problem! Glad there was some good in my procrastination.
