TIP had a favorite/least favorite Christmas song poll, which made me think of "The Little Drummer Boy," the musical version of mom jeans.  How fucking incompetent is that kid?  He's a drummer.  All he has to do is keep time.  That is, literally, his whole job.  What in the hell is he doing if the ox and the lamb are on that task?  And how terrible is he that barnyard animals are more competent than he is?  I think even Nick from Freaks and Geeks could outdrum an ox, you know?

    I don't think that's what "the ox and lamb kept time" means.  

    People tap their fingers to the beat, i.e. keeping time w/movement, so I always assumed the ox and lamb were bobbing their heads or something, to the beat.

    I'm w/ Varuna on this.  I assumed it meant they tapped along.

    Although i heard an interesting piece on canadian public radio the other day about how "Do you hear what I hear" was inspired by the Cuban missile crisis.  It made me like the song more.

    I found out the Carol of the Bells is based an old pre-Christian Ukraine folk chant about spring and birds and stuff.  I thought that was fascinating.

    I did get annoyed this morning when the holiday station listed 'What Child is This' as 'Greensleeves'.

    If it's instrumental, it can be 'Greensleeves'.  If they start with "alas my love, you do me wrong, to cast me off...", then it's 'Greensleeves'.  If they start with "What child is this..." it's "What Child is This.'
    I'm probably overly pedantic on this, but sharing the same tune doesn't make it the same song--if it were, we'd hear "Oh say can you see..." and call it "The Anacreontic Song".

    i would just like to say that the justice of the peace who were going to marry nick and mallory on "family ties" suggested that they get married to that song! omg the lyrics, you guys!

    anyway, the worst christmas song ever is obviously "all i want for christmas is you" because mariah.

    1.  @ReturnOfKuus - I can't believe this annoys you enough to even type this out.  

    2.  @hmonkey - you shut your lying mouth!  Mariah's "All I want for Christmas is you" was an instant classic.  EVERYONE knows that the worst Christmas song ever award goes to the damn "Christmas Shoes" song.

    "All I Want for Christmas (is you)" is a horrible karaoke Christmas song OR song (and dance) for middle schoolers who can't sing on key (which I had the pleasure of hearing on Tuesday night).

    My most favoritest edition of that song is the one she did with the Roots and Jimmy Fallon last year.
