I found my dress! Now a few questions about embellishments / alterations

Its an Allure 9007.Please dont mind the little bit if bunching in the crinoline in the picture, we realized after the photo was taken.

So! I ordered the dress in ivory, and in my size ;)

I am so wishy washy about the bubble skirt... what do you ladies think? Sometimes, I like it, sometimes I want to alter it. I am also considering adding a little belt.

Thoughts?!

  • I can totally see a belt to pull in definition at your waist line. Otherwise I think the dress is really beautiful. You bought it loving it, I think you should leave it.

  • I would definitely add a belt or a sash or something at your waist.  Personally, I am not a real fan of bubble skirts, but it is up to you.

  • I would probably want to let the pickups out a little, if that's possible. However, that's basically exactly what my dress looked like, so I'm bias. I think it is very flattering on you, though.
  • I feel like the bubble part of the dress is what makes the dress... why would you want to change it? If you want to change it shouldn't you have gotten a different dress??? I also love the idea of a glittery belt to define your waistline. :)

  • I wouldn't add a belt. I think it would take away from the embellishment that is right above the skirt.

I also agree with PP.  The bubble skirt is a big part of makes the dress the dress.  If you are really unsure about then I would cancel your order and look for a different dress.  I never understand brides who buy a dress and then alter it to high heavens to make it look completely different.

I didnt initially try it on with a belt because of the embellishment right above the skirt, my mom also thinks it may be too much.

I think I keep going back and forth about the bubble because the photo is of me standing on a raised box which makes me look like Im floating and I like it when its literally right above the ground. So it looks like a cloud.

I wouldnt want to alter it to high heavens at all, it was just a thought because I keep going back and forth and the only picture I have of me in it... is this one, but thank you for the brutal honesty.

I cant wait till it comes and I can try it on in the ivory :D
  • But what you need to remember is that you won't be standing on a box when you wear it on your wedding day. It will be altered to the correct length to just skim the floor eliminating the "floating cloud" look you are concerned about.

What if you did something very small right underneath your chest? That might be far away enough from the skirt that it would just add to it instead of making it too much....  just a thought.

  • As far as the belt goes - I think it'll be tough because I would imagine you'd want to match the embellishment that is already on the dress.  I think even a colored sash might take away but it might not hurt to try it.

I also am not a fan of bubble skirts.

I agree--I wouldn't add a belt because it will clash with the embellishment on the skirt and look like an obvious add on.  If you want more bling I would go with some sparkly earrings and a bracelet.  My dress is a very similar silhouette and they were trying to sell me on a belt at the bridal salon (to make more money I suppose) but I said no.  As for the bubble skirt I could go either way.  If you alter it to be a regular hem, it will look more classic, but I also agree with Maggie that the bubble part will look nicer when you are on the floor rather than standing on a box.
  • I would add a belt, but I'd wear it higher up. Something that matches good with the embellishment at the top of the skirt. I don't think it's too much as there's no embellishment at the top of the dress.
I wouldn't change the bottom. I like it the way it is.
  • A belt of some kind would flatter her figure more, IMO, than leaving it as is.  Perhaps just a simple ivory coloured sash?

  • Looking at the dress again - could the designer of the dress maybe add some of the same bead-work at the top of the sweetheart neckline?  If not - just do an up-do and necklace/hair piece/earrings.
