Etiquette/Rules for officiant at reception?

So I was wondering what the usual protocol is for something like this at a DW? I don't have any personal relationship with her and our reception is a winery tour/tasting followed by a 4 course plated dinner. Does she need to be invited to the reception or is it kind of like with any other hired vendor in this case? (Example, I wouldn't be inviting my ceremony musician to the reception...)

Sorry if this is a no-brainer type of question and any help is appreciated!

    Good question! Sorry, I don't have an answer, but piggy-backing on this question, what if your officiant is also your day-of coordinator?

    Personally, I would still invite them. I can't speak to what "etiquette" would say. 

    We invited ours and he stayed for dinner and then left right afterward.

    I guess that's my question since the dinner is basically the whole reception? (We're not havign dancing or anything like that) We're having 20 people that are all family and would it be weird to have a "random" woman (yes, she's marrying us, but in the grand scheme of things she is not connected to our families in any way) sitting at the table.

    From what my old-school parents have told me, in the Catholic community it's polite etiquette (to the point it's almost expected) to invite your Priest/Monsignor to the reception. Generally, I would think most officiants who aren't close with the family would appreciate the invitation but decline, since it would be just as awkward for them to be there and not know anyone.

    Personally, I'd invite the officiant. If she understands the type of reception you're having, she may decline rather than sit there and twiddle her thumbs.
