Is this an acceptable gift for bridesmaids

I've read a lot on here about "shop for them like it's their birthday or Christmas".....what if I brought them out for a nice dinner/ night out at an expensive steak house or something and covered the whole night? That is typically something I would do for their birthday. Or is it necessary that it be a physical/ tangible gift? (I only have 2 maids so I'm able to spend a decent amount on them)

    I think it doesn't have to be a physical gift, but it's nice to do something physical and tangible so that they can look at that object and be reminded of having been in your wedding.

    I took my BMs out to lunch (which is what we do for birthdays), but I also bought them custom-made jewellery as a thank-you.

    Maybe do a nice dinner and a small trinket -- even a framed photo of you two on your wedding day?

    If you do that (which I think is totally okay), I just wouldn't have it be something with both of them at the same meal unless they're truly really good friends outside of you.  

    If it's my birthday dinner, it would be with the people that I would choose and those that I'm friends with, so just make sure that it applies in the same way, so their gift isn't spending time with people they wouldn't necessarily choose to outside of your wedding and your plans.

    I think a meal would be fine... I'd like that and often go out for meals for birthdays etc.

    I agree with the above also. If the three of you would typically spend birthdays together, great, but if they're not that close, there should be two separate dinners, and just a small physical memento. Does one of them drink coffee, or wine? A nice mug, or wine glass, or bottle stopper... Doesn't in any way have to be a big expensive thing.

    In my family, the bride taking her bridesmaids out for a thank you lunch or dinner is traditional, so I think it sounds like a really nice idea. I hosted one for my sister and her WP. She had small gifts for everyone and personal notes that she gave out at the lunch.
