Please give me your thoughts on this.
We're having a late morning ceremony with a lunch reception. With that, we're having a small, simple cake (though enough for everyone to have a slice if they want it!) and a chocolate fondue fountain with fresh fruit (FI really really wanted this in place of a grooms cake). Our favors are going to be cupcakes from the same place the wedding cake is made at (they are fantastic!)
We're discussing appetizers. Ceremony will be over by 11:30, and is on site with the reception. Lunch will have salad, rolls, entree with sides, drinks, and then the above described desserts. I was thinking two passed options for apps, and two heated dips (it's early March, might be cold). FI is now really pushing for a cheese fondue with veggies, fruit and breads as an app. I think it's too messy- with the heated dips, there's at least serving spoons in the dips so you can put a bit on your plate and move on. With fondue, there's a higher risk of dripping on oneself plus you have to stand there while you dip. While I know people will do that with the chocolate, at least they will already have food at their seats and can wait for fewer people to be near the fondue, etc. Plus, I think two fondues is a bit much, and while we know our site can definitely do the chocolate, they may not be able to do the cheese/ may only be able to set up for one of the options.
What do you ladies think? Do everything we can to have cheese fondue? Bad idea for cocktail hour? Too much to have cheese AND chocolate?
