Vow renewals

My husband and I got married almost 2 years ago but never had the big wedding. We want to have a vow renewal with all of our friends and family there and we want a vintage/1940's theme. I am trying to figure out how to do the wording for the invitations.. I want something clever, not the basic wording. Any ideas?

Vow renewals are usually saved for big anniversaries like 10, 15, or 20. Why not just have a kick ass anniversary party, where you get to wear a great dress and your H a nice suit?  Remember that for vow renewals there is no WP, first dance, big cake cutting (but cake is always welcomed at parties!), bouquet toss, etc.  Wording should go like this:
    Mr & Mrs Sberendt90
request the pleasure of your company
at the Renewal of their Vows

    Date
    Time
    Place

    ETA: Quote

A vow renewal is not a second wedding ceremony.  I don't really understand having a theme.  You will not have attendants at a vow renewal.  Are you asking your guests to dress in costume?  I hope not!  It would be rude and presumptuous.
Wording for a vow renewal is fairly standard, though.  You have to be very careful that it is clear that this is not a wedding.  Gifts are not expected at a vow renewal.  Like the pp said, it is a bit soon to have a vow renewal, anyway.  This is a sample wording, though:

    Mr. and Mrs. John Marriedcouple
request the pleasure of your company
as they reaffirm their marriage vows
    Date
    time
    Venue
    Address
    City, State

Here is a good site for vow renewal etiquette.  No big, pouffy bridal gowns!  This isn't your wedding day.  Good luck with your celebration.

  • I hate when couples try to be "clever" on their wedding or vow renewal invitations b/c it usually just comes out sounding forced or cheesy.  Just use standard vow renewal wording.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14
