TGIF!!

FRIDAY!!!

what's happening?  weekend plans?

this morning, I was taking the lid off my new glass coffee tumbler so I could refill it to take to work.  to my surprise, it shattered in my hands!!  I am so thankful that I didn't slice my hand or wrist.  I work with a lady who had some glass shatter in her hands, and a large shard sliced her wrist.  it ended up permanently damaging her hand...  she'll never have full use of it again, and she can't even fully extend her fingers anymore.  it's almost useless.  I sent an email to the company, and I'm hoping Target will give me a refund.

any recommendations for a BPA-free coffee tumbler??

Re: TGIF!!

  • omgosh, Coco! That is crazy scary. I use porcelain coffee cups, so I'm no help.

I'm working from home in my PJs. It snowed a few inches last night and it is freaking freezing out there.

  • I have a work from home snow day, part of me wishes I didn't have to work at all. Oh well I'll get over it at least I didn't have to drive in the snow.
Not too much is planned for the weekend, I want to audition for this show so we'll what happens with that and also finally plan to go and register this weekend.  I am looking forward to that a lot.  Hopefully some cleaning around the house and putting away of the christmas stuff too.

    Anniversary

  • @CocoBellaF Sorry that happened to you! I don't have any recommendations. I rarely make coffee at home and take it to work. Usually I just drink it here in a mug. The only travel mugs I own are all plastic.

I didn't get make it to the store to buy a new cell-phone yesterday so I'm going today. There was crazy wind here last night and it got really cold really fast but luckily none of our trees fell. FI and I are really stressed about some of our trees because they are dead and part of one fell on our neighbor's fence a few weeks ago. Luckily there wasn't any serious damage and it only cost us about $20 and a few hours to help him rebuild the fence section. We thought our tree guy was coming out last Friday to chop down our scary problem trees but he didn't make it out so now he's coming on Wednesday...ughhhhhh. I just hope nothing continues to happen until then.

Today I also need to go grocery shopping and then FI and I might go see a movie tonight. I'm working from home today but there isn't a whole lot going on. Mostly I've been emailing the florist and a couple of catering companies trying to set up appointments to go over food and design ideas...stuff like that. My sister's catering company came in just under my anticipated budget (including taxes and other fees) so I think I'll end up going with them over the company that I love. Both companies provided great service and wonderful food, it was just I had a preference for one over the other but they are coming in over budget already even without the taxes and potential fees tacked on.

  • @cocobellaf, scary with the tumbler! I know my mom uses insulated tumblers, and I think she's gotten most of hers at Bed Bath & Beyond. Sorry I don't have more details beyond that.

I'm vertical! This is a definite improvement over yesterday. Slept most of the day, tried to sweat out the fever, but I did eat (not always easy with the flu) and didn't dehydrate, so woo for me! If you catch this year's flu, it will hit hard but abate relatively quickly. I'm going to work today, but social life for this weekend will be limited.

BF was perking a lot better than I was last night, so we figure by this evening he won't be contagious anymore. He'll go to gaming, I'll lay around the apartment, but maybe I'll be good enough to knit. Tomorrow and Sunday are for football playoffs. Other than that, maybe do some light cleaning and laundry. We've got another blizzard forecast, and that's getting really old.
  • @TwoDimes I love those lines though. Like when he doesn't even mean to be funny, but it brings me to tears seeing/hearing something he does and I continue to laugh about it afterwards. Speaking of laughing, this made me laugh quite a bit at times. Like really crack up. Not 100% work appropriate though. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7OihpIHUYYU It is a bunch of bloopers from news shows and such.
  • @tuarceatha - this is my first glass tumbler.  I used a thick ceramic one before with a lid, but my H dropped it and it broke.  this was supposed to be the replacement!  I just got off the phone with Target, and if I bring in the lid and the receipt I'll get refunded.  that's good to know.  I emailed the company as well, to let them know what happened.  after reading some reviews, it looks like this is common.  scary!!

as for plans this weekend...  today right after work, H and I are doing our Insanity workout.  after I lay on the floor for a while, I suppose I'll have to get up and shower.  we're supposed to stop by our tailor's to pick up a few things we needed altered.  I think for dinner we're going to a Guatemalan place (YUM!) and then Sprout's for groceries.  oh, and the Target where I bought the infamous glass mug is on that side of town, so we'll stop by there as well.

tomorrow I'll spend some time in the kitchen, plus I need to scrub the floors.  they are a little sticky after we hosted two parties in the past week.  we have our normal services in Spanish that evening, so I'm sure H will spend a good part of the day getting ready for that.  and of course, our Insanity workout.

Sunday is our off-day for working out (YES!!!!).  we have church and I'm sure I'll take a nice nap in the afternoon.
  • @lmhollister - our caterer gave us a 20% discount if we paid in cash vs. a credit card.  would that be worth mentioning, to see if you can get your preferred caterer down a bit more?
  • @KeptInStitches - I've heard a LOT of people have the flu this year!!  I'm hoping that I won't catch it... although, since I teach kids in the evenings, I know I'll be around all the germies.  I bought Pledge with antibacterial/anti-viral stuff in it to wipe the piano down with after they play, and I have some hand sanitizer to give them, to reduce the spread of germs.  I know one of my students is sick with the flu this week, but luckily lessons are on winter break until next Thursday.  ACK!
  • @cocobellaf, the worst part is BF and I both had our flu shots. Feeling majorly picked on? You bet.
  • I guess the strain going around is different.  :(  hope you get back to normal ASAP!
  • Still working from home. Crazy snow! I think I'll be headed back into the office Monday though. Weekend will be quiet, but fun. FI and I got gift cards for a night out to dinner and a movie in a town nearby that we haven't been to so that will be fun. Also hitting up Hibachi with another gift card. Yay the holiday season! So many fun date nights to be had.

  • yum, @Kait!  hibachi!!  that sounds so good...  maybe we'll have to change to that tonight, instead of Guatemalan??
  • @CocaBellaF, I love it and Asian places always make the best and strongest drinks. :D

  • Work is not fun today. My server keeps on going crazy and I can't get anything done so I'm bored. I have a conference call in 30 minutes where I basically just listen to a bunch of other people talk and follow along. I'm ready for the weekend.

Tonight I'm running a couple errands and then going to CrossFit. H is working on the farm this weekend so I have the apartment to myself tonight. I plan to buy some wine and sushi and plop myself in front of the tv to watch some movies.

Tomorrow I need to get some grocery shopping done and clean our kitchen. I also want to finish my Christmas thank you notes...I'm super late on those but it got so busy around here I completely forgot about them. Besides that, I have nothing else going on. I hope H comes home tomorrow night instead of Sunday.

Sunday I'm going with @lmhollister to a Bridal Expo to check out some vendors and stuff. I only went to one of those when I was engaged and it was pretty small. It sounds like this one is a lot bigger so maybe we will see some good things. That night I plan to get some of our wedding photos developed and put into frames. We have like 100,000 picture frames that I don't have space for.

  • @CocoBellaF, so glad you didn't get hurt this morning! Unfortunately I'm no help with finding a better tumbler - I can't STAND coffee. :)

@KeptInStitches, glad you're starting to feel better! Sucks that you'll be recovering over the weekend, though; hope you get some good R & R!

There's a bunch of snow on the ground here today, but fortunately nothing I absolutely HAVE to get done. I'm moving slowly this morning anyway, so by the time I get myself in gear it should be more than safe to drive. I just have to run a few little errands for school and such. Then I work all weekend and have my friend's RPG on Saturday, which will be fun.
  • @CocoBellaF So sorry to hear about your experience with the tumbler!  When I was working as a waitress, I once set a glass down on the bar, not slammed, just set, and it shattered in my hand.  I had a cut on my palm.  When I walked back toward the kitchen to get first aid with my hand elevated, clearly bleeding, I walked passed one of my tables and noticed a few extra people had arrived.  They noticed me as well, since they wanted to order.  After getting cleaned and bandaged up, I went to take their drink orders, "Can I get you anything, a Bloody Mary perhaps..."  Stone faced, they placed their orders.  Everyone's a critic.  Anyway, I hope you can find a suitable replacement soon!

@tuarceatha we are looking at wind chills in the negative double digits for the next 3 or 4 days, so I hear you about staying in!

Well, I wasn't here yesterday to share the WR news, but we have a date and a venue set!  Up until a few weeks ago, we thought we might have to postpone the wedding another year.  Fortunately, I found work before we had to dip into savings.  It took me 21 attempts to get through the reservation line and I waited on hold for about 20 minutes.  By the time I got through, our preferred dates were already taken.  I picked a Saturday in July and thought I was done.  Then I texted the people who needed to know ASAP for reserving time off work and/or because they would be part of the day.  A close friend of mine's husband will be officiating.  Well, they weren't sure if they could make that date, since it fell over a music festival that has been a tradition of theirs for 15 years.  I hopped back on that crazy reservation line, and now there were no Saturdays available until August, so I switched to Sunday the 29th of June.  Phew!  It was too important to me to have them there and I didn't want them to have to choose between being a part of their wedding and breaking a long standing family tradition.

Today, I have a bit of work and errands to do.  We may just hibernate this weekend because of the cold, with the assistance of Netflix.

  • @RWS2011 Hooray for a date and all the details that can be figured out with that!

  • @RWS2011, yay for setting a date!
  • @RWS2011 - Congrats on setting a date! That's so exciting!

I have zero plans for this weekend except to be lazy and catch up on Revenge.

  • Happy Friday All! Lucky for me FI really wanted to go out and buy beer last night before the snow started - because he also bought us a few more supplies - including all the ingredients to make turkey chili tonight - and wine for me! This morning I played around with the polymer clay he bought be for Xmas (I used to love working with clay when I was younger, and he remembered me telling him about it), and I made a little shiba inu figurine that kind of looks like my dog - it's baking in the oven now! I have absolutely nothing planned for this weekend other than potentially going to a friend's apartment for "The Bachelor" premiere on Sunday :-)

  • Thank god it's Friday.... The holiday has jacked up our schedule at work and I just have been very blah. This weekend I'm hoping is very chill. Bf is leaving on Monday until next Sunday for work training in Ohio... So we will be packing, cleaning, grocery shopping and such so the kids and I are all set next week while he is gone. It's going to be interesting, since I just officially moved in last weekend and it'll just be me and the kids.... Weeeeeird. I got movie tickets for Christmas from work so maybe those will get put use, but I may wait until Lone Survivor comes out... Other than that, I'll probably continue to putter and unpack little by little
  • @rws2011 yay congrats on setting a date!

  • @cocobellaf: Yikes that sounds terrifying! I am so glad you weren't injured. I would suggest checking out argo tea and david's tea's websites (maybe bed bath and beyond too). They have a pretty good track record with tumblers/travel mugs. The issue with glass and ceramic mugs/tumblers is that they aren't bounce proof and are more likely to break than plastic, but I can understand your concerns about the BPA issue.

As for the weekend, FI and I are currently snowed in. We plan to make pizza and binge watch a random TV show on Netflix (suggestions would be greatly appreciated). Tomorrow, weather permitting, FI and I plan to go to Philly to celebrate my aunt's 70th birthday. We'll be staying at my cousin's place. There are lots of children and they are always fun to be around (they make up the strangest games, with extremely complicated rules) so that should be an adventure. Sunday FI and I return home, and we plan to do some intense cleaning.
  • I have absolutely no plans for this weekend besides work except maybe to exercise a little.  I took some medication that won't let me leave the house today so I plan on being lazy and watching the Hobbit.  I don't go into work until late tomorrow so I probably will be just as lazy as today or I might run a few errands.  I work on Sunday as well so there goes my day.

BF left around 11 last night to take a boat up to Morro Bay.  I love the man, but I'm not hating the alone time without expecting him to burst through the door.  He should be back this afternoon and he's going to apply for a better job than what he's got right now.  I'm excited for him and I hope everything works out so he can get here and apply with them.

  • @bride2b71614 - I strongly suggest The Following or Revenge if you haven't seen them!

  • @CocoBellaF That's something worth asking about for sure. I think I'll ask both caterers because every little bit helps! 20% is huge!!!

  • Thanks for the warm fuzzies!

Well, the governor of MN ordered schools across the state to shut down for Monday.  I just called in to my new job and they are closing the office down, too.  They will follow suit with the schools for Tuesday.  Ordinarily, I would be all about time off, but I need to start working and make ALL THE MONEY.

Other than that, our good friend who is a professional wedding and portrait photographer just confirmed her availability for our date!
